Guardians trade Josh Bell to Miami for Jean Segura and Kahlil Watson

Well, the Josh Bell Era ended quickly. In a move at the buzzer, the Guardians traded Josh Bell to the Miami Marlins for MIF Kahlil Watson and Jean Segura, who will be, if he hasn't been yet, designated for assignment.https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1686499771320578048?s=20The eight-year veteran was going through a mediocre season, slashing .233/.318/.383 with a WRC+ of 95 so far through 97 games. With the 30-year-old switch-hitter now residing in south beach, this move now gives the Guards the flexibility at the DH spot without the obligation of Bell's contract hanging over their heads. It might be a stunning move to many, but Josh Bell always had value; it might not have been what the Guardians wanted, but someone would be willing to take it on. In his career, he has been an above-average hitter, and with this year being more of an anomaly than his usual production, it's not surprising to see the Marlins, who are contending for a wild card spot, take a flier on him.As for the return, Khalil Watson was the 12th-ranked prospect in the Marlins system, according to MLB Pipeline. Another middle infield prospect that the Guardians have stockpiled for years, who, in the grand scheme of things, is a lottery ticket that'll now reside in Lake County. According to reports, a new environment might be good for him.https://twitter.com/JoeDoyleMiLB/status/1686500471320739841?s=20At the end of the day, this was to clear up a spot; addition by subtraction might be beneficial. Josh Bell's future was murky at best, especially with the Guardians trading for another prospect in Kyle Manzardo, clearly in the plans for 1B/DH for 2024. Now with the DH spot open, they can now allow the OGs, the Frys, and Freemans of the world more opportunities to show what they got.  The crazy thing about all this, they still have an opportunity to win this division, so there's that.
