This Week In Guardians Baseball: Bibee Day

Tanner Bibee entered MLB with style going 5.2 innings pitched with eight strikeouts, no walks, and one run given up though more due to a poor fielding attempt than his own efforts. The only more dominant start for the 2023 Cleveland Guardians was that of his fellow rookie, Logan Allen, and it really could be debated either way. Thus, the future is now for the rotation.

What are your thoughts about Tanner Bibee?

Dave: I was told by a bunch of dudes that he was really good.Taylor: Ethan was excited, so I was excited.Ethan: What he said. Also, I'll win you $56.https://twitter.com/PopPunkdEthan/status/1644681578793107461Matt: What a gem for a kid that has only been a pro pitcher for little more than a year. It was a debut I definitely looked forward but I didn’t expect it would be in late April, but man he made it all worth it. If him and Allen the the future core of the rotation than oh baby we’re cooking with gas.Gerbs: Tanner Bibee has been my favorite pitching prospect for the last year and his debut on Wednesday showed exactly why. Not only is the velo high end, but the spotting of breaking pitches was first class. Getting those secondary offerings in the zone and still missing bats is the way to get attention and, as he develops, means that later in games he can start being more out of the zone with them and getting whiffs.Mike: The slider was immaculate. What amazing movement that somehow ended up in or near the zone all game long. It forced the hitters to chase it and also get a little uncomfortable on more borderline fastball offerings just to attempt to put something in play. Bibee gave up more hard contact than Allen before him, but the two demonstrated why the next wave of starters (include Gavin Williams, Daniel Espino, and Joey Cantillo) are so highly regarded across baseball.
