Kevin Stefanski should be Coach of the Year

I said it. I welcome the trolls and the haters and the "run the ball more"er's, which isn't a word but I don't wanna say bad things about people who think that a coach who has managed an uber-talented roster that has lost so much to the 5th seed of the playoffs. We all know it by now as it's Week 15 and most of these started in Week 1 or 2, but let's go down the list of talent that the Browns have had and have now lost either for the season or large swathes of it:

  • All-Pro right tackle Jack Conklin was out almost immediately
  • Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb went out in Week 2 and sucked the life out of a team that lost a winnable game without him
  • Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson was coming back to form before breaking his shoulder
  • Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward missed three games
  • Starting left tackle Jed Wills is on IR and could be back soon
  • Starting right tackle Dawand Jones is going on IR this week with an MCL tear
  • Anthony Walker missed two games and has returned
  • Safety Rodney McLeod is on the IR and newly extended safety Grant Delpit is a candidate to join him with a groin injury
  • Big free agent signing Juan Thornhill has been in and out of the lineup this season

Every team has injuries, and in a year where 53 quarterbacks have started games, no one feels bad for anyone when it comes to replacing talent. But no team has missed more talent and value and gotten more out of their roster than Cleveland. They are on QB4 on the season, the first time a team has won eight games with four different starting quarterbacks since 1988 ((Coincidentally, it was Cleveland then too!)) and people still get upset enough to call for a coach to be fired when the play call comes in as a run on 3rd and 7.I think a thing that the world needs to learn, not just Browns fans, is that it's okay to disagree and not need to completely separate themselves from the person. Just because the head coach of your beloved football team listens to statistical analysis from someone who did not graduate from the Vince Lombardi School of Hard Knocks does not mean that he is incompetent and needs to be fired. If you wanna argue that the defense's improvements from 2022 to 2023 is because of Jim Schwartz and not Stefanski I can 100% get behind you on that. But isn't it telling that Schwartz wanted to come coach for Stefanski?Try to tell me who has done a better job at coaching their team than Stefanski has in 2023, given all that has happened to the roster in the process. To be able to keep this team together, through all of the injuries and quarterback maneuvering that has been necessary, Stefanski has my vote...if I had one.
