Super Bowl XLIII Surprise: D’Qwell Jackson is Pulling For Arizona
January 29, 2009While We’re Waiting…
January 30, 2009Well, the verdict is out. The team with the best record in the Eastern Conference will have only one representative in this year’s All-Star game as Mo Williams was left off of the recently released list of reserves.
Joining the starting five of Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Allen Iverson will be Orlando’s Jameer Nelson and Rashard Lewis, New Jersey’s Devin Harris, Indiana’s Danny Granger, Toronto’s Chris Bosh, Atlanta’s Joe Johnson, and Boston’s Paul Pierce.
It’s tough to say that any of those listed should not have gotten the nod, but to do what the Cavaliers have done and not get the representation is a bitter pill to swallow. Obviously, it doesn’t help when a mediocre-at-best Iverson gets to take up a spot. But hey, that’s who the fans wanted to see.
My biggest bone of contention would have been if either Rajon Rondo or Ray Allen made it over Mo, but neither was the case. Perhaps he’ll nab an alternate spot if someone cannot attend, but that will remain to be seen.

Hopefully we beat the team with 3 all stars, and this team uses this as motivation to be the best in the NBA the rest of the way.
LeBron starting early, throwing the hammer down!
Needs more preview…
Szczerbiak is getting some good looks. Cavs are giving too many fouls though.
Holy cow what a second quarter for Wally!!
The three isn’t falling, and now the Magic look like a one-man team.
The 3-ball started falling a bit…
even though Mo was snubbed, Mike Brown is coaching the East in the All-Star game if we win tonight
How you know these teams are great: Combined 8 turnovers in the first half (just two by the Cavs) when both teams play good defense. But it’s going to be a much grittier second half, I’m guessing…
Anyone else think Mo/Lebron should drive more at Howard, see if they can draw early fouls?
Not if there’s a lot of grit involved.
Are these non-fouls really that outrageous or am I just a homer?
I think they’re really outrageous. Some I can see them missing, but when LBJ drove at Howard, that has to be a call.
I’m watching on FSN. Is there any mention on TNT of LBJ not getting calls?
LeBron please stop taking all these long jumpers. We know you’re not getting calls but you’ve got to keep driving.
TNT mentioned it for a second, but that Nelson call was kind of controversial there. This has been an absolutely miserable game since the first quarter. Currently 87-72 ball game, but the Cavs were up 53-43 with 3ish left in the first half. 44-19 run for the Magic then?
That got ugly fast.
How long until a stupid comment about how Nelson clearly deserved his All-Star bid more than Williams based on this one game?
I can’t stand to watch when Bron settles for long Js all game. It’s not even worth watching.
Does anyone else notice that Dwight Howard just camps in the key and 3 sec is never called. How can you defend that guy if he can just post up right at the hoop? Bron should pay attention to that.
glad to see the Cavs gave up towards the end. Let everything get to them, instead of fighting through it. I think we might have passed 3 times the entire second half so far.
But even w/ this outcome, I still feel we’re the better team and look forward to when we play the Magic again for some revenge.
Real ugly.
We need home court advantage SO bad. It’s amazing how fast we get flustered when shots/calls don’t go our way.
what bothers me is the team, even with mo williams, still resorts to lebron trying to do everything when things go wrong… the cavs are at their best when they pass the ball and rack up the assists, not when james shoots (read: bricks) jumper after jumper after jumper.
In a way, I’m happy they’re getting flustered now like they did against the Lakers last week. I feel like they’ll go into any future games with either one knowing that they can’t do the same, and that’ll help them keep focus and stop runs.
jesus….
this is my opinion, but i dont think this game was as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Look at the circumstances. we played a perfectly healthy Orlando Magic team, at their home, without Delonte West and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. That’s 26 points missing for us, and would have easily given us the rebounding edge, as the Magic aren’t a great rebounding team. We only lost by 11, and they won off an off night by Mo and LeBron. the only bright spots were Wally and JJ. This wasn’t a horrible game if you think about it, and with Ilgauskas back I easily see us winning this game. We arent the same team without him, so im really excited we just got this game out of the way and can move forwards to tomorrow, where we get Z back. I’m not worried at all, and only see bright things ahead. knock on wood though for that whole thing please please please no more injuries
Ever since the now infamous “crab dribble” LeBron simply hasn’t been getting the calls when driving to the hoop. I’m curious to see the discrepancy in the fouls/game he’s drawn before and after the travel call. Did all his whining after the game really affect the way the refs now call the game? Thoughts?
I’m with you Graham, but you have to be concerned with the defensive effort lately. Confirms that Delonte is the best perimeter defender we have.
I have a concern with them bringing Z back tomorrow. I understand they didn’t want to rush Z back just to play in tonight’s game…but insisting that he IS playing TOMORROW isn’t my idea of easing him back into the flow…
It was 99-74 with 5:20 left in the ball game.. It had been 73-70 Orlando with 1:30 left in the third quarter. I don’t care who you are, a 26-4 run at that stretch in the ball game is unacceptable under any circumstances. We fortunately got a huge run together at the end when Orlando already cinched it, but this was ugly no doubt about it. We need to play them at home.
We kept them under 100 YAAAAAAAAY!!!
Truly outrageous. Orlando getting THREE players and the CAVS ONE is absurd and patently unfair. There is absolutely no way that BOTH Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson should make the all-star team, no way no how. Mo should have had one of those spots, hands down. Sure seems to me that having Cleveland on the uniform garners no respect, and that is really really disappointing in this case. I hope the CAVS get one huge chip on their shoulder as this snub is more than just Mo, it’s a team snub. Let’s get Z and Delonte back and get down to business.
When Z is back he will drag the bigs away from the hoop. When D. West is back, one more of Orlando’s perimeter threats will be locked down. I am not afraid of the Magic at all.
These 2 injuries suck. I think a season of health and the Cavs would have been a lock for the best record. Maybe the injury bug will catch the other teams in the second half of the season.
I know this may seem a little early, but does anyone have an ETS on Delonte West’s return?
Benjamin…….I heard Danny Ferry say at a chalktalk this week that they are hoping right after the all-star break.
Mo Williams is not a woman. He does not “love the snub”.
Devin Harris, Jameer Nelson, Rajon Rondo, and Mo deserved to make the team. Unfortunately, the fans voted Iverson as a starter, which moved everyone down a peg.
Cleveland was a victim of circumstance. Mo has played very well, but he hasn’t played better than Harris, Nelson and Rondo.
If Z had been healthy, he would have been named a reserve.
Brandon, I’ll have to respectfully disagree about Rondo. I agree though, Z’s injury didn’t help. And the fan vote rarely does đ
Rondo has played great defense this season. He deserves to be named to the All-NBA defensive team.
How do you feel about PER? I don’t agree with people using PER to compare players.
But Rondo has a better PER rating than Williams too.
Any time you’re quoted as a “good player who just can’t shoot,” I think there’s a problem. Put him on a team without three All-Stars and see how he does. Mo’s game is one of the key reasons why the Cavs are where they are at this point in the season. A lot of it goes beyond measureable stats, I can agree with that. I just think that Rondo’s only edge over Mo is in his D.
Alright Scott. But I’m going to call on you the next time someone writes a post or comments that LeBron is better than Kobe because his PER rating.
“It goes beyond measurable stats.”
I’m going to remember that.
đ
In all seriousness, I get what you’re saying. However Boston is 1st in points allowed per 100 possessions. They wouldn’t be as good defensively without Rondo. And for a team that has struggled to score this year (despite their offensive rating), that’s huge.
