Phil Savage Still Bitter, Likely Voting For Re-Seeding
March 31, 2008Can You Pass The Braylon?
April 1, 2008Tribe fans, prepare to here the above phrase an awful lot this season. One game down, one win in the bag – but by no means was it an easy one. Bottom of the ninth with a three-run lead? The easiest save in baseball is by no means easy on the heart rates of Cleveland fans when Joe Borowski takes the hill.
Here’s the play-by-play for the bottom of the inning (parenthesis mine):
– Konerko grounds out to third (Nice start, Joe)
– Dye homers to deep left (Heeeere we go…)
– Ramirez strikes out swinging (Alright, one more…)
“And Joe Crede represents the tying run” – Jim Donovan
– Pierzynski walks (Man, do I dislike AJ Pierzynski)
– Pieerzynski to second (I dislike him even more…)
– Crede pops out to third (Thank you!)
Borowski really is Bob Wickman with a better attitude and 40-yard dash time. But he gets the job done, which is what matters. For now. One game in and he is already the proud owner of a 9.00 ERA, which I guess isn’t so bad when compared to, say, Mark Buehrle (37.80).
Many pundits are expecting a change in closer ranks at some point this season. Luckily for JoBo, Rafy Betancourt wasn’t on his A-Game either, allowing three hits and a walk in one-and-two-thirds. Rafy Perez recorded a blown save and Jensen Lewis gave up two earned. Masa Kobayashi had a few warm-up throws in the pen, but Casey Blake had other ideas.
They never said this winning thing would come easily, but the more things change, the more they stay the same. Bring on Game 2.

barring injury, there will be no change of closer at any time this season. we pay the guy to close games successfully…45 of 53 last year in saves. thats the bottom line. he can have another 5 era for all i care. as long as at the end of the year we’re waving at detroit and boston and seatle and la and new york from the world series….i don’t care and neither will the jobo haters.
jobo is exactly what eric wedge wants on his team. may may not have the best stuff in the world, but he gets the most out of it every time out, leaves his heart on the field, and works his AASSSSS of doing so. keep doing ur thing joe.
