The Colt Report: Week Three
November 8, 2010Hey, Look. New Tribe Uniforms!
November 8, 2010Many Indians fans – especially around these parts – have been anxiously awaiting to see what the Detroit Tigers were going to do with their mid-season acquisition in one Jhonny Peralta. The Tribe offloaded the infield staple of the late 2000’s to the Tigers as both parties were staring at a $7 million club option.
The Tigers, as any team with the ability to watch Peralta play would, declined his lucrative option just last week. Instead, they Motor City Kitties locked him up for at least two more seasons in a deal that is reportedly going to net Sir 20/20 Vision $11 million with a third-year option for the team.
Ready for the best part?
“Jhonny is a proven major league player both offensively and defensively,” said Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski. “We feel that Jhonny’s signing, along with the club’s earlier signing of Brandon Inge, solidifies the left side of our infield for the upcoming season.”
Hitting at a career mark of .263, Peralta has experienced a year-over-year regression in batting average, on-base percentage, doubles, hits, total bases and runs batted every season since 2008. He will be 29-years old during the 2011 season.
Tigers fans should hope that Peralta doesn’t take a chunk out of Inge’s season with a wayward clothesline. In the meantime, the Indians will continue to search for their short-term answer at the hot corner – a place to where Jhonny never became acclimated.

DUMBrowski strikes again! hahahahahahaha. This is so classic. AND they re-signed Inge, which means he’ll be back playing shortstop! hahahahahahaha….
Wowzers.
no worries about Shapiro signing Peralta this offseason (or next).
that makes me happy 🙂
Inconceivable!
Classic, well at least Jhonny can afford to have eye surgery again. Seriously I wish I had the skill to be a marginal ss / 3B, you can make a bundle
lol…its not april 1st is it?
Well, now we know what the infield market looks like: $11.5 million buys you Jhonny Peralta. Do we still want to go buy a third baseman in this market?
And Scott, I hate that picture; it makes me sad.
Like Wedgie, they must like his heartbeat. And they just bought it for about $8 per “lub-dub.”
(By the way, how old is Jhonny, really? Over/under is 38. Didn’t he come from the Dominican at the height of the “Office Which Stored Our Birth Certificates Just Burned Down” era?)
This post made me smile

Classic line.
