April 28, 2010We were fortunate to send commenter and long time friend of the site Jon Cole to the game Tuesday night with his camera to capture some pictures for us. He didn’t disappoint. You can find his other work here…

wow seeing that action shot of andy….he’s a lot more buff than I assumed haha look at that arm!
Great pics.
I like Heinrich v. Shaq. They look like members of different species.
Great shots!
I love how you got shaq beasting brad miller. Awesome shot.
I like how LeBron is pointing Andy the direction of the NOISE sign.
Great stuff, cool post.
It’s difficult to get good pictures at a game because of the lighting.
Some questions for Jon…
What kind of setup did you use?
How much time was spent trying to take pictures vs watching the game?
I’m sure Jon would be happy to answer your questions- let me say that Jon submitted 180 something pics to us, and that was about 20% of what he actually took. I think his finger is sore this morning.
The poster shows the bull’s horn right at LeBron’s right elbow and pain lines radiating out from there. Is this some kind of voo-doo poster?
Mr.Cleaveland’s got it. Good thing New Orleans ain’t in it (unless you count the Jazz).
I shouldn’t mock that kind of stuff.
@3 – MrCleaveland: Thank you kindly!
@4 – lstavole13: It was fun to get that shot haha. Thank you!
@6 – Swig: I don’t know how nerdy you want me to get haha. I shot this with 2 Canon 40D’s, one with a 70mm-200mm 2.8 lens and a 15mm 2.8 fisheye lens. I pretty much was glued to my cameras because I wanted to make sure I got some good shots, and I think I did ok. 🙂 I think I ended up with 2990 images.
And that’s not a typo.
@7 – Rick: My finger is ok. It’s the elbows from my lens and the deltoids from the skycam stuff I had to do pre- and post-game haha. Nah, I’m good today.
If anyone wants to see all 186 shots I submitted, I put them on my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/joncole/sets/72157623824757137/
I don’t think that’s a TOS violation… 🙂
You’re fine Jon…you took ’em, if you want to give them away feel free.
These are great. Serious talent.
And watch out, because since you’ve basically released these into Fair Use land, Getty Images is going to be pissed!
@13 – Eli: Thanks! I realize that I’m going to get ripped off to some extent, but this time around I’d like people to see what I can do.
Thanks! You can’t be too nerdy for me.
I was at the Wizard’s game in January in the 10th row and my gf asked why I didn’t bring my camera “um, because I actually want to watch the game”.
One picture every 3-5s is some serious dedication 🙂
Jon — Great, great stuff. I realize you probably don’t wanna give too much of this stuff away for free, but is there any way I could get that picture of the arena (the Flickr album cover) in a larger size to use as a wallpaper?
caption for #4 (Heinrich v. Shaq): Get in mah belly!
@16 – Turk: Hit me with an email via the contact page on my web site.
[…] Awesome collection of picture over at WFNY. I was listening to Mike Synder last night and he said Shaq’s vest was the largest he had ever seen worn by a human being. Now I see what he meant. […]
This is a plug…
Jon took my family’s pictures a couple of years ago… excellent job, I would recommend him to anyone. Jon, hearing the amount of pics that you took is amazing. Maybe you should upgrade to a semi-automatic:)
[…] some sweet photography. Here is the game through Jon’s lens. (Actually, two lenses.) Oh, and Cleveland is now 2-0 in games that Jon is dispatched to cover for WFNY. Just […]
