SABR-Toothed Triber: Translating the Carlos Santana Situation
April 22, 2010Open Thread: Cavs v Bulls, Game 3 and 2010 NFL Draft
April 22, 2010Quick note from Windhorst via the Tweets:
Delonte West trial on gun charges postponed until July 21 today. Was scheduled for Monday.
Windy’s follow up also stated that they may have been working on a plea deal before the originally scheduled trial, which may have caused a suspension. This is now obviously not the case:
Signs were West was working on plea deal before Monday. If that happened, he could have faced suspension. Now timetable pushed to summer.
This is good news for the Cavs and for West as it means they should have him for the entire playoffs, however long those last for Cleveland.

Awesome!!! I was worried that not hearing anything about it was bad news and meant there was a chance he’d miss some significant time in the later playoff series.
I called this from the start. If you waive your constitutional right for a speedy trial a case of this nature can sit on a court docket for quite sometime. Judges are generally amenable to granting a number of continuances as well. I can almost predict that as soon as the Cavs season is over (hopefully not until June), West pleads to a lesser offense, gets jail time suspended and gets probation for 2-3 years. He then will serve a suspension at the beginning of next season.
Very good news. Delonte will be needed in the playoffs.
Okay, Delonte West’s Lawyer needs to be considered for MVP if the Cavs take the title this year… PAY DAT MAN!
Oh hey look, an unsurprising thing happened after people freaked out about the opposite thing happening.
Good to know that this will no longer be hanging over the team for the rest of the season. No doubt Delonte has some serious legal issues that he and his attorneys will have to sort out, but for now, he can just focus on playing basketball. He appears to have made some real strides in the mental aspect of his difficulties.
Delonte has proven to be an important crunch-time type player, so this is definitely good news.
Good, now hopefully he’ll start playing like the Delonte of old. The close it has gotten to this trial date the worse he has played. Am I the only one that has thought this?
Denny, I would appreciate it if you stopped being logical. It is creeping me out.
@ Clown Baby – yeah, I thought the same thing. Lets see if he comes out fired up tonight, guns a blazing, shooting from all over the court.
I think it will be a victory if, when fired up, he resists doing one of those skydives like he did in the Lakers game last winter. What makes him so marvelous is what makes him most likely to be sporting a 3-piece suit.
D-West has really perfected his fade away jumper, I’ve noticed.. he hits them constantly! He may not rack up the points, but I feel confident when he’s shooting. (Not 3’s, tho)
glad he’ll be sticking around for the playoffs.
Good news. I was worried Delonte wouldn’t be available for the victory parade in June because he’d be in Fox River or something.
This is great news for Cleveland fans, and even better news for Delonte West. Instead of hearing all the negative publicity as the Cavs rally to make the NBA finals this year, West will be able to focus solely on his game, allowing him to continue to be an important and vital piece to the championship puzzle. I recall the Paul Byrd HGH scandal during the Tribe’s run to the World Series during the Boston series in 2007. After this news was leaked, it was all downhill from there. It just seemed to put a dagger into the team and Byrd’s successful season. I’m happy for Delonte and the postponement. It seems that the team has just embraced him and are committed to helping him though this situation together. Plus, he’s playing some great basketball. Go Cavs!
