Indians Proudly Present: 70s Weekend, “Squiggy”
June 10, 2008NBA Draft: Chad Ford’s Update
June 10, 2008Via the Cleveland Plain Dealer, we’re graced with what will likely be the best news Browns fans have heard in quite some time: Center LeCharles Bentley has been cleared by the Browns medical staff to practice in minicamp.
“It’s been a long road back for LeCharles,” said [GM Phil] Savage. “We have to give him a lot of credit for the amount of work and effort he’s put into this. To what extent he practices, I couldn’t tell you that right now. We’re going to try monitor the rehab and help him through it.”
This is simply huge news for a guy that many fans had written off after the injury-turned-staph infection in 2006. Few outside of Cleveland will understand the story behind Bentley, a guy who went to high school in Cleveland, played for The Ohio State football program, and now has the chance to (finally) produce for the Browns.
We’ve waited two long years for this news, and while there is no telling what sort of production (if any) we’ll see out of the lineman this year. Don’t forget, it wasn’t all too long ago when there were whispers of Bentley possibly needing a partial amputation. But nevertheless, today is a good day to be a Browns fan.
(Thanks to Spencer for the tip)
(Update 6/11/08: Obviously, we set ourselves up for this one.)

Fantastic news. I don’t expect much from him other than interior OL depth, but the fact that he is back with the team is a testament to his toughness and character.
everyday is a good day to be a browns fan 🙂
If Tucker remains injured, he’s a solid option to support Hadnot at the right guard slot…
Hopefully this is just the beginning to a great comeback story from a guy who is proud to call Cleveland his home!
awesome, i’m still a little pessimistic now (still the clevelander in me) but the fact that bentley has come this far is just a great inspiration and hopefully his comeback will come full circle
i’ll continue to be the black cloud on this one…if bentley ever plays a down for the browns i will be shocked, amazed and completely befuddled. it’s a credit to his heart and determination that he’s passed this physical, but let’s not count on him as a solid option for anything.
Which begs the question – if Bentley does play a down, would there be a bigger ovation in the history of the new Browns?
I think only Brady Quinn starting would bring in a bigger ovation than Bentley
Told ya
Crap. I hoped the LeCharles Bentley story would be worthy of Hallmark. Now, it’s worthy of a scribbled note on the back of a french fry wrapper.
I wish the best for the guy, but boy, he sure is looking rather me-first now.
Sure glad we kept him on the payroll for two years…
i hate to say i told you so…
Admittedly, I was a sucker on this one…
