Moving The Chains: The Tide has Turned
September 30, 2019The Browns are setting a tone and making this the launch pad
October 1, 2019What can’t the Ohio State Buckeyes do, honestly? Dominate offensively. Check. Dominate defensively. Check. Dominate on special teams. Check. So far, so good in Columbus.
When it comes to impressing media members who vote in the AP Poll, the Buckeyes did about all they could do in Lincoln Saturday night. Following their 48-7 trouncing over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the scarlet and gray moved up one spot to No. 4 in the latest AP Top 25, jumping LSU, who was on a bye week.
Through five weeks of the season, Ohio State has made it known that even with a first-year head coach and first-year quarterback, they are the real deal and will continue to be one of the best teams in the country. In fact, some even believe that they have already proven to be the top team in the country so far this season, or at least at the very worst, one of the two or three best teams.
While many believe that Clemson, the reigning national champions, shouldn’t even be in the top three, the Tigers only fell one spot to No. 2 after barely escaping North Carolina with a 21-20 win over the Tar Heels. With Alabama climbing to No. 1 and Clemson falling to No. 2, Georgia, Ohio State, and LSU round out the top five.
In terms of first-place votes, the Buckeyes actually have the third-most in the country (seven). The Crimson Tide (29), Clemson (18), and Georgia (four) have the others.
With the Buckeyes leading the way in the Big Ten, the conference has five other teams in the rankings: Wisconsin (No. 8), Penn State (12), Iowa (14), Michigan (19), and Michigan State (tied at 25). The SEC also has six teams in the top 25, including five top-10 teams: Alabama (No. 1), Georgia (3), LSU (5), Auburn (7), Florida (10), Texas A&M (tied at 25).
Ohio State is set to take on Michigan State in Columbus Saturday night in what will be their first game against a ranked opponent this season. The Buckeyes and Spartans will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET in Ohio Stadium.
Like the AP Poll, Ohio State also jumped LSU in the Coaches Poll, moving up one spot to No. 5.
