WFNY & Great Lakes Want to Know Your Ideal Happy Hour
April 30, 2019The Corey Kluber butterfly effect: While We’re Waiting
May 2, 2019The NFL Draft has been over for almost 96 hours. Most people are probably over talking about the draft and everything surrounding this past weekend’s events in Nashville, I get it. With that said, there are still some things we need to discuss and let’s be honest, Cleveland Browns fans love talking about the draft and football 365 days a year, so it’s never too late or too early, really. Today, we’re not going to talk much about the Browns, though. We’ll instead discuss former Ohio State Buckeye Dwayne Haskins, the New York Football Giants, bachelorette parties, and even mix in a little Taylor Swift as well.1
For all of these discussions, there’s one common theme: “[They] done messed up.” Well, except for Swift, she didn’t mess up whatsoever.
Dwayne Haskins
We can discuss who QB1 was in the 2019 NFL Draft all we want. Some say it was Kyler Murray while others answered Haskins more often than not. It seemed to be a clear-cut, two-man race for the two best quarterbacks. Well, at least that’s what everyone thought. The New York Giants sure didn’t think that.
While the argument can be made as to who was the best quarterback in the draft, either Haskins or Murray, a guy that was never really in the discussion was Duke’s Daniel Jones. Yet, with Murray off the board, the Giants decided to take Jones with the sixth overall pick, selecting him as the second quarterback of the draft, surprising many in doing so. I mean, Haskins’ smirk following the Jones’ name being called says it all.

That smirk, man. What makes it even better is that with the Redskins and Giants both residing in the NFC East, Haskins and the Redskins will go against Jones and Giants for twice a season. Don’t be surprised if the former Buckeye dominates New York. He has something to prove now.
“To be honest, I’m more motivated now than ever,” Haskins said in an interview with ESPN’s Jen Lada after being drafted by the Redskins with the No. 15 pick last Thursday night. “There’s a bigger chip on my shoulder. The league done messed up.”
The whole ‘chip on your shoulder’-type of motivation seems to be a bit overstated these days, but it’s clear that Haskins will use the Giants passing on him for a little extra self-motivation throughout his NFL career. Oh, and I know that he called out the entire league, but I feel like that was mostly just him being professional. We all know that he was referring to the Giants.
New York Giants
For much of the last 20 years since they returned in 1999, the Browns have essentially been the laughing stock of the NFL. Whether it was not being able to find a franchise quarterback in the draft, going a perfect (imperfect?) 0-16, or just seemingly being in the cellar of the league’s standings, it was easy to make fun of the Browns. The Mistake on the Lake was even used at times. It sucked, honestly.
Fast forward to 2019 and things are looking up and quite good for the Browns. While they still have to prove it on the field, the orange and brown seem to have one of the best teams in the league on paper, something that obviously has made the Dawg Pound quite happy.
Then there’s a team like the Giants. Granted, they won the Super Bowl in 2012, but over the last couple of years, they have become the laughing stock of the NFL, or at least in terms of the NFL Draft. Saquon Barkley was a once-in-a-generation talent in the 2018 draft, but it seemed quite clear that the Giants needed to draft a quarterback with the second overall pick last year, one that would take over for Eli Manning sooner rather than later. Even though that was the case, New York decided to take the Penn State product and while he dominated, there’s only so much a running back can do, no matter how good he may be.
Now, in 2019, the Giants have Barkley entering his second year, Manning still at quarterback, and a rookie gunslinger that basically no one thought they should have picked sixth-overall in this past week’s draft. To make matters even worse, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman admitted that Jones might have to sit two-to-three years in order to develop. That means that by the time he would even be ready to take over for Manning, Barkley will be entering his fifth season. Keep in mind, an NFL running back can only be so good for so long. They have one of the shortest shelf lives in the league. While there are outliers, much like there is for anything, running backs get beat up and take hits so often that they just can’t continue to do it year in and year out.
Oh, and add in the trade that sent Odell Beckham Jr. to Cleveland and, well, that makes the Giants look even worse and allows people to laugh at them even more.
You could make a legitimate argument that a team like the Arizona Cardinals are the laughing stock of the NFL simply because of how they handled this entire Josh Rosen situation. I mean, they traded up to draft Rosen in 2018, trading away their first-, third-, and fifth-round pick last year to move up five spots and then only getting a second- and fifth-round pick this year from the Dolphins in exchange for Rosen. But, I mean, at least Arizona has a young and exciting quarterback like Murray.
Isn’t it nice to be able to consistently laugh at another NFL franchise, rather than having to take the heat for our favorite professional football team, Browns fans? I like it. Hopefully, it continues because, well, the Giants done messed up.
Bachelorette parties in Nashville
Nashville is a perfect place for a bachelorette party. Well, on any weekend other than when the NFL Draft is taking place there, it seems. When one makes a big plan, like say, a bachelorette party, it would be a wise decision to make sure the location and date are good ones. One google search would have made it obvious that the NFL Draft would be taking place in Nashville from April 25-27. While it may seem easy, it wasn’t so easy for one particular bachelorette party who was not happy that an event like the NFL Draft decided to happen this past weekend and ruin their time.
I’ll tell you who’s not happy about the NFL Draft in Nashville… People who planned their bachelorette parties with no idea this was happening! @FOXNashville pic.twitter.com/dd3VnbRkIl

Talk about the perfect meme. You could say that they done messed up. If anything, the soon-to-be-bride should be mad at her maid of honor for not doing more research while planning. But somehow, it became even worse, or for us, better, when they talked to Rochester First.
“It just changes, like, the crowd, like, what you’re here for. Like, I don’t wanna hang out with a bunch of football guys. Nope. I’m good. I already have to watch football on Sundays, I don’t need to see any more of that,” one bachelorette party attendee said.
“When did they start planning the draft? Because I feel, like, I just found out about this,” another attendee said. “I found out three days ago, and it made me want to cry.”
So let’s break this down, she’s blaming the NFL and its fans for her less-than-desirable bachelorette party weekend? If only the NFL gave her more than a one-year notice that their draft would be in Nashville this past weekend. To make matters even worse, it looks as though her husband is going to take the brunt of this mistake even though he did nothing wrong.
“The person who’s gonna pay for this is my husband when I refuse to watch football the entire season. I’m talking no Superbowl. Nope. Because you get married once. How often does the draft happen? Every-frickin’ year. Every year.”
That poor guy.
Taylor Swift
The NFL Draft is awesome. Want to know what makes it even better? Taylor Swift. Luckily for us, the two mixed during the first round last Thursday night. It was perfect, honestly.
Some would say that it was Gorgeous. In case you didn’t like Taylor’s appearance, maybe you should Shake It Off and stop being so Mean.
Well, I’ll see myself out with that corniness. Be prepared for an exciting season and future, Browns fans. Are you Ready For It?
- Considering I’m essentially the only one that writes about Taylor Swift on WFNY, I need to show her some love as much as I can on here. [↩]
