August 20, 2018Buffalo Bills wide receiver Corey Coleman had just one reception for seven yards in his debut with his new team after he was traded by the Cleveland Browns August 5, but that wasn’t the most important news he had Friday night.
Following the game, Coleman made it known that Hard Knocks did not show the entire conversation he had between him and Browns head coach Hue Jackson.
“With all of that, I’m going to take the high road,” Coleman said, according to Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith. “You all can see for yourself how all that stuff worked out. I just laugh at it because it’s kind of funny. They should have shown the whole thing if they were going to show it.”
During last week’s episode, Hard Knocks had a clip that showed Coleman going into Jackson’s office and basically demanding a trade after he was demoted to the second team in place of rookie Antonio Callaway. It was very telling and made much of the Dawg Pound realize that, although they were disappointed that Cleveland only received a 2020 seventh-round pick in exchange for the former first-rounder, it was a deal that had to be made.
It seems as though the HBO series left some important parts out. Whether you believe that’s the right or wrong thing to do, looking back, showing the entire clip would have made much more sense. The whole point of Hard Knocks is to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at certain situations throughout training camp. What’s the point of leaving out key parts of a conversation and making one side look much worse than it should?
Not showing it left fans believing that the Browns were in the right and they were basically forced to trade Coleman for basically nothing. But what didn’t they show is the real question? Did Jackson say something questionable? Did offensive coordinator Todd Haley do or say something that got Coleman even more irritated other than just demoting him to second team?
Since they didn’t show the entire clip, it leaves fans with even more questions about what really happened between Coleman and the coaching staff, something that could have (and should have) been avoided by showing the entire conversation and what all went down.
Then again, Coleman could just be covering for himself and making up that other things happened. We don’t know, and we most likely will never know.
