Just say no to Josh Allen and Trading Down

It’s draft week, and it’s sure to be noisy out there. With that in mind, it’s important for us to stay focused on our informed and uninformed opinions. This morning I laid out what I want the Browns to do and more importantly what I don’t want them to do.

Firstly, I want them to skip out on Josh Allen. I’m higher on all other quarterbacks that could be chosen in the first round, including Lamar Jackson, who hasn’t been listed as a top-four prospect at the position. Darnold? Fine. Rosen? Cool. Baker Mayfield? I’d probably be more excited for Baker than most Browns fans I know, but whatever!

Secondly, do NOT trade down. Just because the Browns have traded down in the past and it hasn’t worked isn’t a reason to not trade down in the future. That said, it’s a big part of my reasoning right now. The Browns have “increased their odds of success” by adding additional draft capital too many times in the past. As their additional picks litter the landscape of unsigned and out-of-the-league lists, it’s time to just take the highest ranking blue chip you can find. No more games. If it’s Chubb, draft him. If it’s Barkley, draft him. Get one of the top four players in the draft because Browns fans have earned the right to have two of the top four players in the draft.
