NFL Draft: Browns have “astronomical” grade on Myles Garrett
December 11, 2016Tony Rizzo vows to run over parade participants: While We’re Waiting
December 12, 2016The Cleveland Browns lost their 13th game of the season on Sunday, falling to the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-10, at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Browns tried to make a second comeback, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome. In the loss, the Browns were led through the air by quarterback Robert Griffin III, who threw for 104 yards and one interception. On the ground, running back Isaiah Crowell rushed 10 times for 113 yards. And, the top receiving target for the Browns was tight end Gary Barnidge, who caught three passes for 27 yards. The Browns fall to 0-13 on the season with the loss.
The Browns offense was the problem on the day, in particular the passing game and the play calling. Robert Griffin III struggled mightily to throw the ball, completing just 12 of 28 passes. He was erratic and just not good enough. So, the running game should have been used a lot more, especially with the success it had today. Cleveland rushed for 169 yards as a team on just 22 carries. Isaiah Crowell gained 113 yards on just 10 carries. The rushing attack was working, but head coach Hue Jackson went too heavy on the passing game, which obviously was not going well. The Browns had a run game, but Jackson did not use it enough. Here is how the game transpired.
The first quarter was a disaster to say the least. The Browns were able to just inch out 29 total yards, while the Bengals drove through the Browns defense, gaining 123 total yards. Robert Griffin III looked rusty and was out of sorts in the first quarter. Nothing really went well for Cleveland, ending with the Browns trailing 13-0 to the Bengals.
The second quarter continued the trend of dreadful Browns play. The offense continued to not move the ball, ending the half scoreless. The Browns defense hung tough, but still allowed another touchdown in the quarter to make the halftime deficit against the Bengals, 20-0. In the first half, the Browns were outgained 216 totals yards to just 72 total yards. The Browns offense was able to notch just three first downs, while the Bengals offense posted 14. The Bengals controlled the game and the clock, holding the ball for 19 minutes and 11 seconds of the 30 first half minutes. The Browns had a big uphill battle to overcome, trailing 20-0 at the half.
But, things changed in the third quarter. The Browns scored their first touchdown of the game on a ten play, 80-yard drive, ending in a Griffin one-yard touchdown run. The drive seemed to get the team back in it and with the momentum. The Browns defense held the Bengals scoreless in the quarter. It was probably one of the best third quarters the team was able to put together all season. The Browns ended the quarter down 20-7, but Cleveland was driving inside the redzone, poised to cut the lead down even further.
The Browns cut the lead to ten after they ended their ten play, 69-yard drive with a field goal. On the ensuing drive, the Bengals responded to the Browns field goal with a field goal of their own. The Browns momentum was pretty much halted when the Bengals made their field goal. Cleveland could not get back into the groove on offense on the next drive. They were forced to punt, which pretty much put the nail in the coffin for the Browns. The Bengals knocked off about four and half minutes on their next drive, giving the Browns just under a minute to score two touchdowns. The Browns could not get a score on their final drive, giving the team their 13th loss. The Browns lose to the Bengals, 23-10.
The Browns, now 0-13, will look next week to find their first win, when they travel to Buffalo to face the Bills, who lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

As manager Casey Stengel famously said of his expansion Mets in 1962, “Can’t anybody here play this game?”

This season was super fun until I lost. Not cool to put me and Mary Kay in the “Losers” column. Not cool at all. But at least me and MKC have each other. So screw you guys!

Maybe now is a good time to remind ourselves: a horrible and winless team has nothing to do with us fans. Zippo, nada. It’s not a reflection on the city of Cleveland or us personally. It’s not a by-product of our failing to support this team, our lousy local BMI, or anything. It’s Jimmy, and the decisions he has made for the past years, that has led to this moment: a defense that behaved as if told that the bye-week was supposed to end at the half, of Robert Griffin repeatedly startling rodents with grounders on those occasions he remembered to look around the field and release the ball (but hey, he’s both “young” and rusty, if he would have stayed healthy and merited playing time since 2013 he would have been better. I think that’s the argument du jour) . The point: don’t take it personally. Any 0-16 infamy is squarely on Jimmy and his cap guy/newbie GM. Now, with that out of the way:
I miss Austin Davis. Austin Davis got zippo coaching, no practice time and still came in last year like he knew the offense and had a plan. Austin had a better chance of spraying water on the this smoldering mess such that linemen could figure out how to block and receivers where to cut or sit. Hell, Austin could help me understand how the Browns can run each kickoff back 7 yards and still hold. And why, with 45 expendable guys on the roster, Joe Haden returns punts.
I kid. I don’t miss Austin. I barely know him. He’s just this lost mythic figure of bare competence on a team that can barely get in a legal formation.
I miss Connor Shaw…
hmm, maybe that’s who I meant. Hard to keep the names straight in the Berea cathouse.
which one came in and almost always almost won once?
Connor started against the Ravens at Baltimore with one week of first-team practice.
Got cut this preseaon, then got his leg broke with the Bears.
Die-Hards only, boys.
I’m going to go out on a ledge here and say that RGIII will be RG-SEEYA next season.
He’s the worst QB the Browns have had in a long time. No vision. No touch. Lost.
But.. but.. but Johnny Manziel had a shorter career in the NFL than RG3, and.. and.. and.. he likes ummm.. tacos, yeah tacos. RG3 WINS!!!
Put me down for 4 wins for 2017. It is as low as I will allow myself to predict.
My usual wager is fine. $0.00 (think of the earnings when it hits 1,000,000,000 times that amount)
Ok… Mgbode 4-12 for 2017
We’ll trade our second round pick for Mark Sanchez

44,000 announced attendance. Hats off to the guy who went thru the turnstile 20,000 times. He’s gotta be tired today.
Austin Davis was given an extension for proving to be a middlingly competent as a third-string QB (as long as he didn’t need to be more than that).
in true Browns fan fashion, I somewhat hope for Spiderman to whoosh in there after this clip ends and save this poor boy from his inevitable fate
Is that with or without JT?
yep , first thing i noticed on the telecast was all the empty seats … pretty embarrassing.

This is all headed toward a Week 17 head-to-head matchup between G_O and RGB. I don’t like my chances.
man , it’s a damn good thing that my rosey outlook comes wit a lot of stamina … ’cause this is getting tiresome … i will keep waiting … patiently waiting.
nahhh , if he’s a Browns fan , he’ll get used to it.
I guess that if anybody knows rotten QB play it would be Browns fans. Those were some sad stats by Bob from this game. Luckily the Skins were playing so I wasn’t able to watch. Still, i guess there’s always next year!
