Cleveland Browns Progress Report: Week 8
November 1, 2016The Cleveland Indians versus Jake Arrieta
November 1, 2016The rumor mill had been swirling for some time, but we finally have all the details on the Buckeyes’ throwback uniforms for the 2016 season.
In 1916, the Ohio State University football team, lead by halfback Chic Harley, registered the school’s first undefeated season on route to claiming the conference title. Commemorating the 100 year anniversary of that season, Nike will outfit the Buckeyes in a new throwback look for the University to add to its growing uniform collection, complete with scarlet and gray striped jerseys, gray pants and new, matte black helmets.
Purists may not like the absence of the scarlet and white stripe that typically adorns the Ohio State helmets, but as more schools add matte looks to their arsenal, it appears this one will be more of an homage to the blank, leather lids from 100 years back. The Ohio State’s Nike Vapor Untouchable uniform features an all-new chassis with minimal seams and fewer panels (five each in the jersey and pant) than the more traditional builds. A special game-woven label bearing the inscription “music and cannon fire” on the inside collar is pays homage to Harley’s running style, “a cross between music and cannon fire, and it brought your heart up under your ears.” The entire look is topped off with striped Nike Elite Vapor socks that provide additional ankle and Achilles padding, and advanced cushioning.
While the Buckeyes will debut this uniform on November 5, you can get your hands on one through WFNY’s Fanatics shop, complete with male, female and t-shirt options. Kickoff against the Nebraska Cornhuskers is set for 8 p.m. EST.
