November 20, 2016The best of both worlds? With Kyrie Irving’s third signature sneaker gearing up for an early 2017 release, it would appear that fans will get a collaboration of the first two models mixed with some of Nike’s latest technological work.
Though not slated to release until January 21, leaked images give us our best look at the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard’s impending addition—Nike Basketball’s Kyrie 3. The first visual element that fans will recognize will be the reversion back to a lace-based system, forgoing the strap that was prevalent on the Kyrie 2. Instead, the standard Kyrie toe gives way to a reinforced forefoot. Once again a mid-top, the upper appears to have a texture akin to that of the Jordan 31, producing a more subtle edition of the textured heel that was a staple of the Kyrie 1.
The outsole will once again feature a 360-degree traction element that has been a part of both the Kyrie 1 and 2, but this edition appears to have additional detailing on the forefoot—the above images feature a colorway that includes a heat map-like detail on both the medial and lateral sides.
If early model leaked images are any indication, the bottom of the shoe also includes an homage to his late mother, Elizabeth, as well as his daughter, Azurie, while having the “KI” logo on a transparent window located on the heel. As has been the case for both of Nike’s previous Kyrie models, the shoe is topped off with the “KI” logo on the tongue as well.
