Cover your eyes, it’s Steelers week: WFNY Roundtable
November 18, 2016Rivalry Renewed: Browns – Steelers Preview
November 18, 2016Looking at Saturday’s matinee game, many may think that the Ohio State Buckeyes should have an easy, cake walk-type game against the 3-7 Michigan State Spartans. While the scarlet and gray may be 22-point favorites, they have revenge on their minds after Sparty came into The Shoe last year and gave the Buckeyes their lone loss of the season on a game-winning field goal as time expired last November.
Ohio State has struggled against the Spartans over the past few seasons. Whether it’s head coach Mark Dantonio or just something about Michigan State, the Buckcyes have won just two of the last five meetings in the matchup since 2011. Although the 2016 version could be much different than the last five games between the two teams, head coach Urban Meyer and the rest of the coaching staff know that they must keep their team’s heads concentrated on the Spartans, no matter if they are 3-7 or 10-0.
With back-to-back 62-3 thrashings over Nebraska and Maryland, Saturday is another opportunity for the Buckeyes to prove to the Playoff committee that they are one of the best teams in the country, if that in fact still needs to be shown. As they have done in most videos thus far, there is a short statement near the end of the video that is intended to get to each of the Buckeyes. This week’s: “A brotherhood trained for battle. This Saturday. Finish. What. You. Started.”
With The Game looming, Meyer and the rest of the coaching staff will be sure to make sure their players don’t look ahead to that matchup and look past Michigan State.
Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on ESPN.
