C-Cap Recap: Us Against the World, Part 1; Miller’s Crossing
October 7, 2016Just a Klubotβno fears, no emotion, no tears: Bode Plots
October 7, 2016The day after a Cleveland Indians playoff win is unlike any other Cleveland sports feeling. I don’t blame anyone who might have forgotten just how awesome it is because the last one was October 17, 2007. Cleveland fans were riding high and enjoying life with no idea that the Red Sox were going to rattle off three straight wins to knock the Tribe out of the ALCS by a combined score of 30-5. Honestly, nobody knows what tomorrow brings for these Indians either, but in the moment it doesn’t matter.
Last night playoff baseball was back in Cleveland. Last night the muscle memory of getting up for strike two came back. Last night we had the unbelievable high of watching Tribe batters go yard in the third three times.
Just incredible to be there with so many Cleveland fans and so many WFNY writers. With apologies to TD and Jon and anyone else we missed who was there last night, we did get a chance to have a little meetup with Scott, Andrew, Jacob, Josh, Jessica and yours truly. I have no point, except to do a Chris Farley interview tag like, “that was awesome.”
Now while we’re waiting…
It’s your Browns Friday Fumble!
This week’s Browns Friday Fumble dropped while you were sleeping, so you should probably listen to it now. Not to pull back the curtain, but there might not be two bigger fans of the Friday Fumble than Scott and me. It’s so inside at times, but I love it every week.
National WHAT day?! (of the week)
In our second weekly version of the examination of the ridiculous number of “national” days there are on the calendar, we’re looking for a doozy. October 4th was National Taco Day, and National Golf Lover’s Day, while also sneaking in National Vodka Day as well. I don’t know about you guys, but if I’m celebrating vodka, it’s going to be an evening celebration and not during the day. On the fifth, we had National Walk to School Day, which is a legit one that I’ve heard about people observing. The sixth was National Noodle Day, apparently, and that’s not too crazy. The seventh was National LED Light Day, and also National Manufacturing Day. But this is Cleveland so I’m looking to October 8th for my inspiration this week for National Pierogi Day!
So, presuming we’re going to celebrate this by going out and partaking in some authentic Cleveland Pierogi, where would you go?
I’d be looking at Sterle’s and Sokolowski’s personally. How about you?
Your weekly moment of soccer zen…
An oldie but a goodie. David Beckham free kick goal.
Doubling down on Bon Iver…
Kyle painted himself into a 90’s corner with his Bon Iver review in terms of clips he could play. His review was really well done and you should read it, but I’m going to share a song from the new album. It’s the album closer “00000 Million” as performed live. I’m going to need some time with this album, but I love this song already.

Shouldn’t any National [liquor] Day fall on the fifth of a given month?
I can’t quite get a “handle” on why that isn’t already the “case”.
Given another “shot”, I think they would get it right.
You guys about done?
If soccer cleats could be worn to school, those Adidas Predators would have been right up there with Air Jordans. Man, those were all the rage. They had little rubber pads on the prime contact surface that *let* Beckham spin the piss out of the ball (nevermind if they got wet, they were slicker than the leather). And, of course, if it worked for David Beckham, it would work for a scrawny 135-lb freshman.
…says the bartender to his idiot customers taking National [Liquor] Day far too seriously.
I think someone’s had his fill.
Ok, your round.

Oh man, what a game. That place was alive last night. 3 HR’s in an inning. Miller in the 5th. And of course, stranding the bases loaded. Love Allen, but he is torturous to watch in the 9th. Soooo friggen slowwwwww.
Speaking of soccer zen, last night reminded me of another time the crowd was would tight as a watch spring. Watching Chelsea beat Barca in the Champions League semi final at a pub in South London. You could feel the energy release after 30+ minutes of defending the goal. Check swing was like that.
Now I gotta finish another pot of coffee and do it all over again. π
And this time they will shine.
dun, Dun, DUN!…

Can we please scotch this bad pun discussion?
If she was still alive, I’d be going to my Polish grandmother’s house for pierogies. Nothing else I’ve had comes close.

Is this where we talk about Pedroia’s wine?
Never in the history of WFNY has there been a more appropriate gif. And that’s saying something.
I’m going to ruin things and not that Dustin came out after the game and apologized – said he did in fact swing, he was just upset and he’ll apologize to the umpire crew today.
you don’t know us very well π
G_O?
Termite walks into a bar and says “Wheres the bar tender?”
My Grandma’s favorite joke ever. Miss you Grandma Gladys

I would post it right back to you to show my gratitude, but… #giffail
Baseball!!!!
Still working on the first draught
The new Bon Iver is incredible…never fails to amaze me. That last song is incredible. But the whole album together has a flow unlike most albums. Definitely a start to finish listen each time.
No, no, no. Sniffing glue…err, nevermind.
62% of Ohio voters are idiots…
http://thebiglead.com/2016/10/07/62-of-ohio-voters-think-ohio-state-could-beat-the-browns/
Yikes…that’s unfortunate, particularly considering corollary with the Presidential election polling in Ohio:(
Saw that. I hate when guys I want to dislike make it hard to dislike them. Guess I’ll just have to dislike Ortiz even more.
Sorry, but it’s absolutely impossible for me to believe that opposite polling results would indicate anything different. Presidential polls are not the venue, and this certainly is not the year, to determine the intelligence of an electorate. Options are Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dipsh*t. The fact that a majority anywhere likes one more than the other indicates only the depth of the Hobson’s Choice cesspool with which we’re faced.
I was just kidding. I don’t think people’s voting in a gen election is directly related to their intelligence per se…and certainly in this Charlie Foxtrot this year. There is a lot of smoke, shock and awe. If the people vote against who I think is better, however, it does clearly mean they are ill-informed or failed to properly analyze the facts:)
That’s why I’ve taken up eating paste.
