Recap of the Top Matchup of the Week
Solon defeats Euclid 33-13
Solon put on an impressive showing against a solid Euclid team, beating the Panthers 33-13. The Comets put the game away pretty early, leading Euclid 26-0 after two quarters. Solon was led by their star quarterback Joe Bubonics. Bubonics completed 15 of 28 for 212 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. His backfield mate, running back Thomas Wilks, had a good day, rushing for 63 yards and catching two touchdown receptions. Euclid was led by running back De’Quan Pruitt, who rushed for 115 yards on 17 carries. Solon moves to 4-1, while Euclid falls to 3-2 on the season.
Sadly, the results of the game were completely overshadowed by the shocking death of Euclid player Andre L. Jackson. Jackson passed away on Sunday after being hospitalized following the game on Friday. WKYC reports:
Jackson was injured as he was part of a special teams play at an away game against Solon Friday.
Coach Jeff Rotsky wouldn’t give specifics about how Jackson was hurt, but did say, “There was a pooch kick and he was going for the ball and one of their guys was going for the ball and I think he got kicked or kneed or something like that. It was a completely normal play. It was just a very strange situation and a sad situation.”
WFNY sends heartfelt prayers to his family and the Euclid community during this time of tragic loss.
Best Performance
Bedford cruises past Maple Heights 41-0
Bedford was able to control the game against Maple Heights the entire way, beating them 41-0. It was never really close, with Bedford storming out to a 33-0 lead at halftime. The Bearcats were paced by quarterback Arshaun Wilson-Boone. In the victory, he threw for 274 yards and four touchdowns. The other star of the game was the Bedford defense. The Bearcats held Maple Heights scoreless and to just 134 yards of total offense. It was a complete team win for Bedford over a solid Maple Heights team. Bedford moves to 5-0, while Maple Heights falls to 3-2.

In the victory, Crum surpassed former Midview quarterback Cody Callaway’s school career passing yards record. He also was able to rush for two touchdowns, while also throwing for three touchdowns. Four of his touchdown plays came from over 50 yards.

Top Matchup Next Week
No. 5 Solon @ Mentor on Friday
This matchup looked a lot more enticing before the season, but the early struggles by Mentor have lowered the excitement around the matchup. Nonetheless, the matchup is still the one to watch this coming week. Solon is riding high after their big win over Euclid, while Mentor got back on the winning side this past week, beating Shaker Heights. It could be a shootout with two talented offenses. I am going with Solon in the game, but Mentor could turn their season around with a victory over the Comets.
