Joe Haden: Josh Gordon “looks the exact same”
August 23, 201610-star Monday: Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes gearing up for Week 1
August 23, 2016It may have taken until the final day of the 2016 Olympics in Rio, but Ohio State’s Kyle Snyder made the last day a special one for not only the Buckeyes, but for all of the America. The current Buckeye wrestler was allowed to participate for Team USA and made the most of his opportunity. Against Azerbaijan’s Khetag Gazyumov in the 97-kilogram (213 pounds) freestyle Sunday afternoon, the 20-year old took an early 1-0 lead and ended up beating his opponent, 2-1, to take home the gold medal.
Snyder not only became the youngest American wrestler to ever win gold, but he also is the first active Ohio State wrestler to ever win a medal in the Olympics, let alone finish atop the podium. According to Eleven Warriors, Richard Voliva was the last Buckeye to earn an Olympic medal, when he won silver in 1936.
Along with his accomplishments in Columbus, Snyder has had quite the year. Heading into his junior season, he has won the heavyweight national title this past winter and world championships this past summer. Oh and don’t forget he won the NCAA championship this past season as well.
For those interested in seeing just how much Snyder has done to prepare for all of this wrestling against the world’s best, he admitted that it doesn’t take much, he’s just listened to his coaches along with putting 100 percent effort into everything he does, according to the Plain Dealer.
“I don’t really have too big of a secret. I listen to my coaches. I train as hard as I possibly can. I think, if anything, my secret is that instead of thinking about winning and thinking about gold medals and stuff like that, I try to value just my effort, value my improvement and value the love that I have for the sport. That drives me every day.”
Due to the fact that he won gold, Snyder will receive $250,000 as well, money that the NCAA will allow him to keep even though he is an amateur athlete. And yes, we’ll save that conversation and argument about amateurism in college athletics for a whole new day.

$250,000 – laundered from Nike via the USOC. But nothing wrong with that.
Snyder has won 2 NCAA National Championships:
Remember, OSU won the wrestling National Title as a team in 2015 (which Snyder was part of – right on the heels of winning the football National Title), and now he has a National Title as an individual in 2016 to go with it (on top of his World Title and Gold Medal)
