Fantasy Football, Quality Filters and Frank Ocean: While We’re Waiting…
August 22, 2016Letting Josh Gordon optimism creep in
August 22, 2016With Madden 17 set to release at midnight, we wanted to give you a look at just how good (or bad) each of the Cleveland Browns projected starters’ overall rating is in the game.
Unfortunately for Cleveland fans, the Browns are rated as the worst team in the game—even worse than the San Francisco 49ers who arguably join the Browns in the first heat for the race to the bottom this coming season. Their 73 overall rating is just behind teams like the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, and Miami Dolphins, along with the Niners. But while the orange and brown may be rated the worst team in the video game, they have plenty of top talent as well, including the tied as the top rated offense lineman in Madden 17: Left tackle Joe Thomas (97 overall).
While Thomas may be the best offensive tackle in the game, there are also a few surprises as well. Cornerback Joe Haden (86), who struggled mightily in 2015 when he was actually on the field, is rated the second best player on the team. Tight end Gary Barndige (84), who was a Pro Bowler last season, is the fourth-best rated Brown. There were also two big surprises out wide for the Browns offense: Wide receiver Josh Gordon, who is one of the best at his position when he is actually playing, is only rated as a 76 overall and wide receiver Terrelle Pryor, who has plenty of potential and promise, was given just a 71. Gordon’s low rating is likely due to the fact that he missed all of 2015, while Pryor’s is most likely due to the fact that he is still learning the receiver position and wasn’t on an NFL roster for most of last season. Because quasterback Robert Griffin III missed all of 2015 while recovering from injuries and such, he will have to prove himself yet again to improve his 73 overall rating.
Obviously, ratings will change depending on how the team and individual players perform, but to start Madden 17, these are the overall ratings of the projected starters on the game for the Browns:
