LeBron James beats himself up over free throws

(Dripping with sarcasm.) Can someone check on LeBron James and make sure he’s alright? He seems awfully broken up about his struggles from the free throw line.

I’m sure haters and detractors will consider it false modesty, but LeBron James is playing an amazing NBA playoffs and is still finding flaws. LeBron did an on-court interview and when presented with some gaudy stats about how well he’s playing and scoring efficiently, he decided it was more important to deflect to a criticism of his own free-throw shooting. “I’m 11 for 21 from the free throw line. UGH!”

I’m sure this is annoying to opposing fans. I know for a fact that if I was an opposing fan that this kind of thing would drive me crazy. I’d be thinking, “We get it LeBron. You’re just so driven that even in the face of triple-doubles and an undefeated playoff record, you can find a place where you could be playing better.” These are the kinds of things I bargained never to forget when I made peace with the idea that LeBron James was coming back to Cleveland and reconciling my own apologist past. It’s possible to simultaneously love LeBron James and what he’s doing for your basketball team while also not co-signing on his every action. Thankfully this video clip is maybe slightly obnoxious or annoying, but pretty harmless.

The Cavaliers have their next matchup with the Toronto Raptors on Saturday May 21, at 8:30 pm. We’ll see if the Cavaliers can keep up their unbeaten streak and if LeBron can fix his free throw woes.
