Indians Home Opener postponed due to weather. What now?
April 4, 2016Opening Day blues, Championship Glory, and an interesting Weezer album: While We’re Waiting
April 5, 2016You might say that LeBron James is getting primed for the NBA Playoffs. For the second consecutive week and the fifth time this season, (most in East and tied for most in NBA), and 53rd time in his career (most in NBA history), Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. It’s just sort of what he does.
This is the 53rd time in Cavaliers history that a player has been named the East’s Player of the Week. Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea was named the Western Conference Player of the Week.
While leading his team to a 3-0 record (the Cavs only loss came when James sat out due to rest), the point-forward averaged a near triple-double, with 28 points (led the East), 9.3 rebounds (ninth), 10.7 assists (second), and 2.3 steals (seventh) in 38.7 minutes per game. He also shot 57.6 percent from the field and had a plus-minus of plus-44 (second).
James also recorded at least a double-double in every game. He was the only player in the league to average more than 20 points and 10 assists per game while shooting at least 50 percent from the field. He also passed both Dominique Wilkins and Oscar Robertson on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The 31-year-old is now 11th on the list with 26,749 career points.
In his last seven games, the 12-time All-Star is averaging 28.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 9.6 assists per game while 56.9 percent from the field. With just five games to go in the regular season, James and the Cavaliers are currently 55-22 and have a 3.5-game lead over second-place Toronto for the top spot in the East.
So, as the Cavaliers close-in on obtaining the top seed in the Eastern Conference and LeBron James continues to excel on the court, the rest of the conference can just watch in horror as James attempts to be on the Eastern Conference representative in the NBA Finals for the sixth consecutive year.
It might be Opening Day for the Cleveland Indians (whenever the weather will cooperate), but the real NBA season is also about to begin for the Cavs.
