Katie Nolan and the Cavs, Opening Day and more: While We’re Waiting…
March 31, 2016WFNY’s 2016 NFL Draft Coverage: Joe Gilbert’s Top Five Interior Defensive Linemen
March 31, 2016It may not be football season, but the Ohio State video and graphic team, led by David Trichel, is at it again. As if their hype trailers prior to each game during the season aren’t enough, they have outdone themselves once again.
The Buckeyes will be losing plenty of talent to the NFL Draft, but head coach Urban Meyer and company are hoping to reload—not rebuild. With the talent in their recruiting classes over the past few years, that will most likely happen. But to help keep the competition and progress going this off-season, Meyer and the other coaches have created what is “Winner-Loser Day” (which is exactly what you think it is) for each spring practice.
The first video features highlights from the Bucks’ scrimmage this past Saturday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Sophomore Jerome Baker, who is fighting for a spot to start at outside linebacker with Chris Worley, had the highlight of the scrimmage when he had one-handed interception around the one-minute mark, a play which will help Baker once fall rolls around.1
The second video was taken on the first day of spring practice, March 8, when a bunch of new faces were taking the field for the first time wearing the scarlet and gray. Whether they are young or not, the Buckeyes look to be ready to roll just while they are only a few weeks into spring ball.
Both videos feature a major dose of quarterback J.T. Barrett, who is one of the few playmakers to return to Ohio State this spring, with so many others preparing for the their respective next steps. While Barrett may have almost an all-new wide receiving group outside of a couple players, the videos feature plenty of highlights of No. 16. Whether he is throwing passes or running the read-option, the video seems to be foreshadowing the upcoming season: Barrett with the ball and creating plays, either with his feet or his hands.
Ohio State’s Spring Game is April 16 at 12 p.m. at The Shoe.
- It also shows freshman wideout Austin Mack making a one-handed snag as well. Mack has already caught the attention of Meyer and the rest of the offensive coaching staff. [↩]
