Enjoying the 2016 Cleveland Indians by keeping expectations low
February 18, 2016Cavaliers Trade Deadline with Scott Sargent and Dave Sterling – WFNY Podcast No. 460
February 18, 2016In advance of Thursday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline, it appears that the Cleveland Cavaliers will be acquiring center Channing Frye from the Orlando Magic. While the details of the trade appear to be in a state of flux, Frye, who was on the one-yard line of a deal that would send him to the Los Angeles Clippers, will head to Cleveland while long-time center Anderson Varejao will end up as a member of the Portland Trailblazers. Jared Cunningham is also expected to be a part of the deal.
Channing Frye will be sent to the Cavs from Orlando, I'm told. Anderson Varejao will wind up in Portland. More to come.

It was thought that Frye, on a very inexpensive deal for a defensive-minded stretch power forward, would be going to the Clippers, but Los Angeles would not commit to a deal, thus allowing the Cavaliers to sneak in during the 11th hour. He will immediately slot in as the eighth or ninth man in Tyronn Lue’s rotation, allowing the Cavs to maintain floor spacing in the event that Kevin Love needs rest.
The Magic, in turn, will be sending Varejao to Portland for a second-round draft pick. He will leave Cleveland having played the seventh-most games in a Cavaliers uniform (591), earning fan praise in nearly every single one. In a bit of irony, Varejao was drafted by the Orlando Magic in the second round of Magic back in 2004.
Frye is owed $7.8 million this season and $7.5 million in 2016-17. Varejao, conversely, is due $18.9 million over the same span, allowing the Cavaliers to save money (taking into account the luxury tax multiplier) in addition to finding a better fit for their roster.
While any moves the Cleveland Cavaliers would make were thought to be “minor,” trading a fan favorite will likely send some shock waves through Loudville.

Rest assured, they won’t be paying him $10M a year.
My point is that Wiggins is ascending. We are watching two different leagues if you disagree.
Let me guess: most of them came from the let’s-retire-his-jersey crowd.
The AV deal rates with those in terms of insanity. Giving a 32 year old back up center with a history of injuries a $30M deal when a) you already his younger and better replacement on the squad in TT, and b) you needed money to lock up that younger, better replacement was, yes, bonkers. It was also completely unnecessary.
No, your point was that a trade of Love for Wiggins is sketchy for a win-now argument. I’d flip it and say we are watching two different leagues if you think that.
No, I said you can rationalize the Love/Wiggins trade on win-now grounds.

Yes, and then you said that the concept was sketchy. Come on guy, this is absurd… just read what you wrote.
