Meet the Akron Pros: First Champions of the NFL
January 21, 2016Shallow Thoughts: David Griffin couldn’t have done any better
January 21, 2016Though he hasn’t played a down in two seasons and has spent much of the last few years training to become a cyclist, former Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. is attempting a comeback when it comes to the NFL. Confirmed by TMZ, a now-33-year-old Winslow tweeted that he is “putting his life’s work” into getting back onto the field.

Drafted sixth overall by the Browns in 2004, Winslow had an injury-plagued career—some of which were self-inflicted—that later saw him spend time in Tampa Bay, Seattle, New England and New York with the Jets. Winslow fractured his leg while playing special teams during his rookie season, had a motorcycle accident wherein he wrecked his bike in a parking lot in 2005, and had to undergo microfracture surgery in 2007 all stemming back to the accident.
Winslow’s best season in the league came as a member of the Browns in 2007 where he hauled in 82 receptions for 1,100 yards on what was a 10-win team. A years later, he fell victim to a staph infection issue that plagued much of Berea, including teammate Joe Jurevicius and center LeCharles Bentley. Traded to Tampa Bay upon the arrival of Eric Mangini to Cleveland, Winslow had some moderate success early, but quickly fell off of the radar after his 77-catch season in 2009. Contract issues in Seattle led to him playin in just one game with the Patriots, and then being suspended for PEDs after arriving in New York.
Winslow was last in the news in 2014 after he was arrested for possession of synthetic marijuana outside a Target in East Hanover. Police were called to the scene because a woman thought she saw him masturbating in his vehicle (in the parking lot) according to court documents. When the policed asked Winslow what he was doing, the former tight end, who had two open containers of Vaseline in the center console, infamously responded that he was “looking for Boston Market” but was lost. He blamed his in-car movements on “changing his clothes.”

You know, people criticize Josh Gordon and Johnny Manziel for public embarrassment and hitting rock bottom, but at least they never got busted at Target by the tug patrol.
Also, TWO open jars of Vasoline?! I don’t even want to know.
So, “The Soldier” is broke. Not surprising.
This just reminds me that we could have drafted Big Ben instead of Winslow, and if so, how different the paths of these 2 franchises would have been.
can’t stand this guy. And his tweet makes no sense.
On the plus side, if he comes back to the NFL the A to Z podcast will suddenly have a lot more material to work with.
Lol at “tug patrol.”
Trading up one spot to get him too.
and paid him like a guy drafted 2 spots even further up.
