Please permit me a post presser vent here. They couldn’t give me even a day to at least dream they’d luck out and get it right.
Ladies and gents, your latest Smartest Guy in the Room is … Sashiii Brrrown! Welcome to personnel, Sashi. We hadn’t heard the one about the cap guy who longed to make his bones in player eval since like, oh, 3 and a half years ago. Zero need to worry about getting a “GM” (wink, nudge), not with ten billion Kokinis and Lombardi types dying to type that on their resume for their next shot at a real GM job.
Ok, clarity is good. Haslam’s latest golden child convinced daddy that, together, they can wreck this league in an original way. Screw that musty way other teams do it, with a successful and experienced personnel guy doing personnel. This right here is cutting edge, with analytics sprayed around by the guy with the org’s fastest, shiniest computer. Can’t trust a personnel guy with analytics. No sir.
Honestly, I want to vomit. Or laugh. Or both. Go Cavs.
Haslem’s press conference was almost as big of a joke as this whole past season. I think it’s clear despite the admissions and excuses he started his press conference with that he thinks he’s smarter then everyone else and he’s going to do it his way, again. As owner he has that right all I know is every time you think it can’t get worse it does. I honestly thought the light would go on and Haslam would turn to some proven NFL front office people instead he’s going to do it his way yet again. His way: promote a lawyer to VP of football operations. His way: form a committee to select the next head coach. His way: form a committee to select the next GM. His way: have the head coach report to him and the GM report to the VP of football operations.
My way: Hire some proven ex-NFL front office people who were either GMs or higher to consult with me in choosing (A) The VP of football operations and along with that person (B) GM and along with those people my HC. But what do I know.
Jimmy Haslem is the town of Sprimgfield and ever new VP is the Monorail salesman. It’s kind of hilarious.
We are so screwed. Here’s an actual quote from Haslam: “I don’t think structure is quite as important as right people and right place and everybody understanding their roles.”
I think I’m going to vomit. If it’s important that everyone understand their role, then structure is very, very important. Structure is everything! It’s what determines what everyone’s role is! But Haslam thinks that somehow people will settle into appropriate roles and not fight over authority if you don’t define their roles in a clear structure.
Blech.
I listen to Haslam and all I can think is – this guy is super rich…..how?
What a moron. “We need smart people” blah blah blah – “we need people to understand their roles” blah blah blah
Good grief. We are so screwed.
He inherited it.
Leap of faith……..
Why? Why in the world would anyone give Haslam a leap of faith / benefit of the doubt. It just further demonstrates the complete lack of sound judgement from this ownership.
If he is looking for faith, trust, hope forget it. Not buying.
Banner, Lombardi, Farmer, Pettine and Manziel. He still wants input into player selection. Now a non-football guy in charge of football? This guy is a complete fool.
They will wind up with some no name “GM” with no authority, another rising coordinator who has never been an HC.
They will completely screw up the 2nd pick. My prediction is they trade up 2017 1st rounder to the Titans to get Goff. They are totally at the mercy of the Titans now, they have to pick Goff, no choice.
Oh, and Schwartz, Gipson, Mack, Thomas, Benjamin are gone. So in addition to having no WR’s, linebackers and an aging strong safety, we now no longer have anything resembling an offensive line.
For those who thought screw it, fire them all it can’t get any worse, it just got way worse.
hi JPF … joe thomas gone ??
If anything cries out for Scott Raab’s take, it was that delusional press conference. Jimmy Haslam showed his ass, and it was not pretty (all wrinkled and pasty since he does not use his sunburn lamp in the nude).
At the end of the day, it can be summed up thusly: I’m going to be the GM, but I don’t want to put my name on that and have to endure any of the responsibility for my actions.
Anyone who gives this team a dime of their money going forward is a total fool, and totally part of the problem.
