More focus for Flash: Josh Gordon hustling through his suspension
October 14, 2015A roundtable look back at the 2015 Indians
October 14, 2015Josh McCown officially has more AFC Player of the Week awards in 2015 than Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Andrew Luck—combined. The NFL announced on Wednesday morning that McCown’s performance in the Cleveland Browns’ 33-30 win over the Baltimore Ravens was enough to garner him the award for Week 5.
On Sunday, McCown completed 36 of 51 passes for a career-high and Browns single-game record 457 passing yards with two touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 111.3 rating. He added 12 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. In doing so, McCown helped Cleveland earn its first victory in Baltimore since 2007 as the Browns improved to 1-0 in AFC North divisional play for the first time since 2004.
Though the evolved game sure helps his cause, McCown became the first player in Browns history to throw for 300 yards in three consecutive games. His 457 passing yards are the second-highest by an NFL player this season and his 36 completions tied for the second-most in Browns history. His 1,154 passing yards over the past three weeks leads the NFL during that span and is a Browns three-game record. Potentially the most impressive of the obscure statistics: The 13-year veteran is tied for the NFL lead with three 300-yard passing games this season and is second in the league with a 123.2 rating on third down.
This marks the second time McCown has won a Player of the Week award, doing so with the Chicago Bears in Week 14 of the 2013 season. Jason Campbell was the last member of the team to do so, winning the award in Week 9 of the 2013 season. Past recipients for 2015 include Tennessee’s Marcus Mariota, Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger, Cincinnati’s A.J. Green, and San Diego’s Philip Rivers.1

as the proud new owner of some browns passing records , this is well deserved. I had heard HARV say barnidge was ” careerin’ ” … i hope mccown has picked the right time to do some careerin’ as well.
he’d better enjoy it … he will be severely tested these next 4-5 weeks.
In view of the Browns glorious history, it seems odd in a way that ranges from flukey to sacriligeous that the single-game passing yardage record belongs to McCown, the rushing yardage record to Jerome Harrison, and the receiving yardage record to Josh Gordon.
Okay, I’ll go feed the pigeons now.
Yep, I’ve had the same thoughts. But if anything it just proves that single-game records are worth as much as the ones-and-zeroes that they’re printed on.
hi tb2…i will be interested to see what the offense can do against a very good Broncos defense this week. we should find out pretty quick whether it’s for real OR if maybe playing a very bad Ravens defense has more to do with it.
hi TRS … i’m with ya. hopin’ for the best.
