Is it September 13 yet? Browns lose preseason finale to Bears 24-0
September 3, 2015Ohio State releases hype video for season opener at Virginia Tech
September 4, 2015FRIDAY! The Cleveland Browns are done with the pre-season. The Buckeyes start on Monday night. I’ve attended my first high school football game already. All due respect to Christmas, this is the most wonderful time of the year. Hope you are enjoying it. Have a great weekend. Now.. while we’re waiting…
I would absolutely love to have RG3…
When you look at players and how they turn out in the NFL, it’s easy to lose perspective on how they achieve success and/or fail. Obsessing on the results alone is almost always unfair to the player. Recently I was listening to Bomani Jones talk about Robert Griffin and how he’s come to be viewed in the NFL. Jones is shocked over and over again how the blame can be cast on RG3 as if he didn’t have a good rookie year and as if Washington hasn’t been one of the biggest disasters as a franchise over the years. Sure, blame it all on RG3 and forget that he’s this same guy.
Sometimes it is the player’s fault. With a guy like Trent Richardson, it’s a little bit easier to just point at the player. T-Rich was given golden opportunities in Cleveland and Indianapolis to show that he could be an elite level running back in the NFL. It’s not my perception that those teams did anything to “ruin” Trent Richardson. T-Rich was given chances time and again and still couldn’t hit the right hole.
What does any of this have to do with RG3? He might be available soon and the Browns will certainly be brought up if he does in fact get cut from Washington. I’d be happy if the Browns gave him a shot.
I believe in the Cleveland Browns coaching staff. I believe that they are fostering an environment where players can achieve. It’s not perfect, and there’s no telling all the variables that are or were in play relating to Justin Gilbert and Johnny Manziel, but that doesn’t have a lot to do with RG3. If the Browns can somehow get him to Cleveland and take a shot at resurrecting his career by committing to him, that sounds like a worthwhile effort. I know it would be a little bit weird with both RG3 and Johnny Manziel on the roster, but until such time as any Browns quarterback makes the job theirs, I’m not interested in protecting anyone’s feelings at the cost of the pursuit of a franchise quarterback.
It’s worth a try because Robert Griffin III is a player who has played a part in his own negative outcomes in Washington, but it very well might not be a majority of his fault.
Speaking of RG3 and Mike Pettine…
Attempted Comedic Cheesy PowerPoint GIF of the week…
I’ve been playing with something that’s so incredibly dumb that I actually think it’s hysterical. I want to corner the market on using my vast and worthless PowerPoint skills – honed in many long hours as a cubicle dweller in the finance department for Parker Hannifin – to try and make you laugh with sports things. The point isn’t that these are works of art. The point is that they’re not. Hopefully you find them as funny as I do. Here’s one about the thing that Mike Pettine and RG3 have in common.
Your weekly moment of soccer zen…
Goalkeeper love is happening here.
New music of the week isn’t all that new…
I’m not plugged into hip hop. We all know this. I still fall in love with some songs from time to time whether it’s Drake or Rihanna or some duo from Minnesota who are eight albums in by the time I “discover” them. I somehow came across “Smart Went Crazy” by Atmosphere this week and I love it. So I’m sharing it. No matter that it came out in 2005…

yeah, and guess who was named the Texans OC that year? Someone with a front row seat watching Couch becoming roadkill.
Teasing Romeo, it never gets old.
