2015 Browns Position Previews: Cornerbacks

July 10, 2015Do you find yourself missing former Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson? Well, bad news… he’s still pretty awesome. Thursday, the San Francisco 49er tweeted a video of himself nailing a field goal from 65 yards out:
Out with my dad today. Guess he's not quite done yet. #65 yards #its good pic.twitter.com/Qdbu5Iyrbs

Deep sigh.
The good news, however, is that if you find yourself missing good ol’ Philly D, you’re not alone. Based on the reply-tweets to that video alone, I’d say your fellow Browns fans really miss him, too:
I feel your pain, guys.
Meanwhile, it looks like Phil is spending his summer gearing up for the 2015 season, which, by the way, will be his 18th in the NFL:
Anybody starting to smell football in the air? Year 18, here I come.

In case you were wondering, Phil still holds the Browns career field goal record (tied with Lou Groza) with 234. The former Pro Bowler spent 14 seasons with the Browns before being released by the team and signed by the 49ers in 2013. At the time, he was the last remaining player from the 1999 Browns squad.
And if you were wondering if Phil misses us, too:
@ClevelandChick : I have not, nor will I ever forget C town!!!!

Maybe just a little.

Mark me down as one of the people who misses Phil.
All because the man wanted more than (relative, I know) crap pay. He earned it, and we had/have the cap room. Sheesh.
I like Phil and he was very good at the end of his time w/ CLE. People forget how pedestrian he was at the start of his career. He also had very low rate of kickoffs through the end zone as well.

That the kicker was the most beloved player from his era says a whole lot about the rosters from his era.
Phil sure seems like a solid, decent fellow but … miss him? They cracked .500 like twice all the years he was here. I don’t miss any of them. No, not even the great Chris Gardocki.
Lou “the Toe” Groza is one of the more beloved from the previous era too though.
And, the “Dawson Bar” moment is one of the few highlights from those years.
I personally miss seeing a talented offensive team
um, Lou was a longtime offensive line stalwart. Your better comparison is Matt Bahr, who was a likeable guy and reliable kicker but not the guy you get misty about when the team is decent.
