The Ballad of Mad Dog, Chip and The Coach
April 29, 2015The “Entourage” colorway gets revisited with Nike’s LeBron 12 low
April 29, 2015The Browns likely have some interest in Marcus Mariota. That much I think I can discern as undeniable truth after seeing a flurry of reporting come out of ESPN the day before the 2015 NFL Draft’s first round commences in Chicago.
First, there was this tweet from @SportsCenter.
Browns offer two 1st-round picks to Titans for No. 2 overall selection, where they would plan to take Marcus Mariota. (via @PatMcManamon)
— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) April 29, 2015
That’s an attention-getter for sure! The Browns offer two first round picks to the Titans, plus they would plan to grab Marcus Mariota? That’s concrete! Once you read Pat McManamon’s story, however, the foundation appears a little looser.
After leading with the statement that the Browns have “discussed” trading with Tennessee, McManamon’s next two paragraphs create doubt where SportsCenter’s tweet had none.
The Browns, according to the source, made an offer to the Titans that includes the team’s two first-round picks — 12th and 19th overall.
However, another source close to the Browns said there have been no substantive talks with the Titans and that these discussions commonly take place as the draft approaches.
So there might be smoke or fire, or maybe very little of either. When I spoke to Lane Adkins on the WFNY Podcast he indicated that there wasn’t unanimity across all the Browns decision-makers regarding Marcus Mariota. I’m assuming if there was that kind of unanimity and the Browns were convinced that the Oregon QB is the next Andrew Luck that an over-the-top deal might have already been struck between the Browns and the Titans.
Of course, all this assumes that the Buccaneers are in fact going to take Jameis Winston as well. We’ve seen NFL drafts fall into disarray before, and there’s very little certainty that the 2015 NFL draft can’t or won’t fall into chaos as well.
The cop-out of all cop-outs is that we will all find out soon enough on Thursday night when the teams are actually put on the clock and are forced to turn in their picks. Cop-out or not, that’s about the only thing I feel comfortable betting on right now.

Drive that nail in!!!!
Sooooooo One GM talk to another about trading. I’m guessing 31 teams have talked to 31 other teams about trading.
There has been way to many reports about the pumkinheads and Mariota or Bradford so I’d be worried if you are a fan of this wretched football team.
Filed to: PLEASE GOD NO
I have the Browns making this trade in 32 of my 666 mock drafts.
This makes no sense. However you value draft picks, #12 & #19 are nowhere near enough for #2. It’s about 600 points short if you use the old value chart and even shorter after RG3 conversion.
can we please stop doing this? it’s been shown time and time again the teams who build and sustain long-term success are those that do NOT trade picks away.
PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE LET FARMER BE DUMB ENOUGH TO MAKE THE TRADE BEFORE THE FIRST PICK IS MADE JUST SO THE BUCS CAN SELECT MARIOTA IN WHAT WOULD BE LEGITIMATELY THE GREATEST TROLL JOB OF ALL TIME.
Helloooooo, Leonard Williams?
Please No! How many times have we gotten multiple picks, then traded them away up or down, losing a multiple pick in a later round, to draft a first round bust. just draft two pro bowl caliber picks in the first round and NOT a QB. Lets give Manziel (hard to say this) one more year, as Joe Thomas of all people just stated he sees a completely different guy. Lets hope Johnny is pissed off and will fight the world to prove he can play. I know, that is crazy, but serioyusly, who is to say Mariota will be any better than Manziel? I am sick of this, lets use the picks for once and draft some needed DL and OLB talkent that the team needs. I am sick of failed QBs… and wasted picks… ENOUGH!
Honestly, while I don’t want to lose two first round picks, if they trade up for Williams, I AGREE! He is the ONLY guy in this draft worth trading up for. Though I was hoping Amari would fall to 12.
BROWNS TRADE 12, 19, 2015 2ND ROUND AND 2016 1ST ROUND FOR LEONARD WILLIAMS.
Sounds about right to me.
A completely different guy after almost a whole month? Welp, I’m sold. Mariota may be a bit of a project (all the QBs this year will be), but I’d rather have his tools to work with than John Pigskin’s, even before the off-field shenanigans. I’m not saying we have to make this deal, but I wouldn’t hate it either. Of course it’s all just talk and meaningless until tomorrow evening, so I’m not get worked up about anything either way until it all plays out.
not sure why the Titans would do that. They’d want to make sure that #2 overall translated to at least one franchise cornerstone, this year or next. Not nearly as likely with #12 and 19.
Also, is anyone a little worried that Farmer has grown a beard? Last time one of our GMs did that he was melting down into a full-blown middle-age crisis and ended up taking an underweight pass rusher, trading a truck of picks away, denuding the roster of all running backs and then firing his first year coach.
Also breaking: I’ve discussed whether to get takeout or actually cook dinner tonight. More information as the situation evolves.
It is SO OBVIOUS that this is Tennessee trying to create a market for Mariota to trade back. The 12th and 19th would be a steal for the Browns. I sure hope Farmer offered such a one-sided deal to Tennessee. There is no way Tennessee does that deal. So the “report” is just silly.
Like when Detroit faked Butch Davis into trading them a second rounder to move up one spot to draft KWIII…
you apparently lacked foresight in planning. marry someone who is a fantastic cook (better than a franchise QB)

LMFAO !!
you are correct , but how many chances do you get to secure a franchise QB ?? … if he is indeed a franchise QB.
You should buy the ingredients, go to the restaurant, cook the food yourself, and pay the restaurant for the ability to do so.
/equivalent of trading 2 first round picks for the possibility of drafting Marcus Mariota
Welcome to silly season.
Update: Nope. Flush rumor down the toilet.

Only one problem: “just draft two pro bowl caliber picks in the first round…” You say this as though picking future pro bowlers is some guaranteed thing. At best, the only thing holding on to the picks does is give you 2 chances at getting one pro bowler.
That doesn’t mean I don’t favor your position, just don’t agree that one path is more guaranteed than another.
The Benglas have made only a few draft trades in the 25 years or so Mike Brown has had control of the team. So it’s probably like 30 of 30.
Would they do #12 and next yr first rounder?
Man is that one ugly jersey behind her.
Because Titans would hope our #1 next year would be higher than 19 overall? Don’t see how that is more attractive to them. And that would leave Farmer without a #1 next year when he could very well be on the hottest of hot seats. Imagine how Haslam will view Farmer’s performance next year if Mariota spent the year learning and all the other draft choices he’s used or traded in 2 drafts has produced only one player, Bitonio, who is currently an impact player (as opposed to a “decent” or “promising” player) and he has traded away that year’s first rounder. I think at that point Farmer’s career here is in peril, and justifiably so.
hi HARV … i am confident farmer will come out of this draft just fine. let’s not judge it after day one , or even day two … he will do well in the later rounds & with UFA rookies as well. let it play-out …
