March 9, 2015If only for a few weeks, he was a hometown hero. Now, native Clevelander Brian Hoyer will be calling a new city home. The 29-year-old St. Ignatius and Michigan State graduate will sign with the Houston Texans, per Dianna Marie Russini of NBC4 in Washington, D.C.
QB Brian Hoyer is going to be a Houston Texan per sources.

No contract terms have been released, and the deal has yet to be finalized. In fact, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, the New York Jets are still in the race to win Hoyer’s signature. Whether it is with the Texans or Jets, Hoyer will be joining his fifth different NFL team. His previous stops were in New England, Pittsburgh, Arizona, and the last two seasons with the Browns.
While chances are #Texans will land Hoyer, #Jets are still in it. In fact, they are expected to make push today. No deal done yet.

For the Texans it makes some sense to bring in Brian Hoyer. They were 9-7 in 2014 across three quarterbacks – Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Ryan Mallett. Texans coach Bill O’Brien reportedly wanted Ryan Mallett to compete with Brian Hoyer for the starter’s job. It’s all a big New England love-fest in Houston if that comes to pass. O’Brien was in New England with both Mallett and Hoyer in 2011, so the fit and dynamics between the three might make some sense.

No, most want it done the right way but don’t have the slightest hope that anyone in power can accomplish that. We went 7-9 last year, and the reaction of the front office is to tear it down and start again, by letting our moderate quality free agents walk in favor of the glittering, widely craved compensatory draft picks. Fans in freaking Buffalo would laugh hysterically and bitterly at that, but in Cleveland it’s somehow a legitimate strategy.
Sure, I can’t blame Haslam and Farmer for the problems of the past. But I *can* blame Haslam for being thoroughly directionless in his time here – we’re already on our second regime under Haslam – and Farmer has done a mediocre job thus far. For a team that is going to build “smartly, through the draft”, it’s fairly important to not blow two first round picks on players who were outplayed by undrafted rookies and may never start an NFL game.
Unless I’m mistaken , the first FO (banner & Lombardi) were more or less forced on haslam by the nfl as part of the sale agreement … and it didn’t haslam long to run those two out of town after he saw no decent head coach candidates or free-agents wanted to deal with banner & Lombardi . I think it’s the smartest thing haslam did so far. And I would take haslam over randy Lerner any day. So it comes down to farmer , scheiner & pettine … What do you think of them & are you ready to call them failures after only 1 season ?
I have a gut feeling the browns may make a draft day trade for foles or Bradford …
