Discussing a few potential Browns free agents
February 26, 2015Breaking Down CSU’s Shot at the Conference Title
February 26, 2015In the last installment of Todd McShay’s mock draft, we were treated to a possible worst case scenario of drafting a project RT and an inconsistent WR-TE hybrid with our two 1st round selections.1
Thankfully, in the post-combine update to his mock draft, those choices are no longer given to the Browns even though he still has us selecting the same positions. In his latest mock, DeVante Parker drops to the Browns first selection and he has them pulling the trigger on the highly touted WR out of Louisville.
DeVante Parker
Cleveland Browns (7-9)
COLLEGE: Louisville | Class: Sr | HT: 6-2 | WT: 207 | POS: WRAnalysis: The Browns’ quarterback situation is a mess, with Brian Hoyer a free agent and 2014 first-rounder Johnny Manziel currently in rehab after a rookie season in which he struggled. But the only way they’re going to find an answer in this year’s draft is if they package the No. 12 and No. 19 picks to move up into the top five to draft Mariota, and I don’t think they will (or should) do that. So their next-biggest needs are probably right tackle, wide receiver and nose tackle, and in Parker they’re getting a big, productive wide receiver who quietly put up some impressive workout numbers at the combine — 4.45 40-yard dash, 36.5-inch vertical jump, 10 foot, 5 inch broad jump — that matched the explosiveness he displays on tape.
While it might be surprising to see him have Parker drop after such a strong combine, it is quite possible to happen as there are conflicting reports on where teams rank the top three WRs. Regardless, enjoy watching him shred the College Football Playoff participant Florida State Seminoles.
Mr. McShay is still clinging to his belief that RT is a primary need for our team, while I think of it as a secondary need behind QB, TE, WR, NT, and OLB. But, if we do select an OT in the 1st round of the 2015 NFL Draft, then I would be pleased with Ereck Flowers at pick number 19.
Ereck Flowers
Cleveland Browns (7-9)
COLLEGE: Miami (FL) | Class: Jr | HT: 6-6 | WT: 329 | POS: OTAnalysis: I had the Browns take Louisville receiver DeVante Parker at No. 12, so with this pick they’ll address their need at right tackle. Flowers has a really good combination of size, strength, agility and toughness. He can get better with his hand placement and he needs to work at keeping his pads down more consistently, but the weaknesses he shows on tape are correctable. Additionally, he possesses great football character and takes well to coaching.
Ereck Flowers does need to work on his technique, but he has great athleticism and showed it off with a good game against the College Football Playoff participant Florida State Seminoles.

I can’t see the whole draft since it’s a Four Letter Insider article, soooooo, not being able to see who was available when the picks were made, I conditionally approve those picks.
So begins the constant revision of drafts by the “experts” so come draft day they can say, “I had the Browns taking him here in my 47th mock.”
If you can’t be handsome, at least be handy.
If you can’t be right, at least be prolific.
every time you click his page, an angel gets it’s wings. or something.
His first picks in his earlier mock are going to be busts. A RT in the 1st round is too high.
While drafting a WR and OT in the 1st round is still an option, after reading the following, I don’t think the Browns are going in that direction.

agreed. I really think that we’ll come away with a pass rusher if at all possible and, alternatively, I would love if Shelton dropped like DT tend to do on draft day.
Agreed on Shelton, but I’m starting to fall for Malcolm Brown too. I’m sure things will change before the draft, but for now I think the Browns need one of those two guys in the first round. For me, that’s more important than a WR. And yes, I realize this means I learned virtually nothing from the Julio Jones trade.
Much better to “finish” one side of the ball, which then lets you supplement that “system” with lower picks who you can train in. They said as much last year as well.
hi MG … the browns have already expressed their love for LSU OL la’el collins … so i think they would select him before flowers. many mocks have flowers going before the 12th pick.
expecting shelton to be gone by the time the browns pick , i’d be happy to see them get one the best DL left at 12 or 19 : brown or goldman. then going with the theme LUNCH mentioned above , grab the best OLB left on the board , as i expect sheard to be gone & i’m not expecting major improvement from mingo.
the browns quietly snatched OL michael bowie of waivers from the seahawks , i think he has a real good chance at starting at RT.
I’m not sure how Bowie’s shoulder is progressing, but I have no issues if we bypass OT in the 1st round.
I really like O-squared from UCLA as a pass rusher. He has some injury concerns, so his stock has been down. But, he is a phenomenal talent and if we does last until round-2, then he would be a steal. We might have to take him at #19 to get him though.
And, Fowler is my favorite, but he will likely be gone by 12 too. Malcom Brown would be a nice backup prize if Shelton does go before our pick.
