March 1, 2015Once an All-Star, Baron Davis, who is currently in retirement, wants to make a comeback. According to TMZ, Davis is in talks to return to the NBA and has had discussions with multiple playoff contenders.
Among the playoff contenders that have talked to Davis are two of his former teams, the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers, both of which have a common need—a backup point guard.
A two-time All Star in his 17-year career, Davis averaged 16.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.8 steals in 835 games, including averaging 13.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.1 steals in 15 games (9 starts) in a shortened 2010-11 stint with the Cavaliers.
Davis has reportedly kept himself in great shape, though this may be relative, and is serious about his return to the NBA.
Although there may not be a deal in place, bringing a veteran presence like Davis to Cleveland would be a very interesting move for David Griffin and company. Irving could not only learn from the veteran, but Davis would be a great insurance policy in case Irving needs to sit out a game or two because of an injury or rest, like on Friday night.
In case you forgot, Davis was traded by the Los Angeles Clippers to the Cavaliers in a deal that included a first-round pick. That very pick which became the first-overall selection in the 2011 draft in which the wine and gold selected Irving. Though Davis provided energy and a few key wins in his time in Cleveland, the team would later amnesty him in order to obtain salary cap relief.

Davis played 13 years, not 17.
He’s GOT to be better than Dellavedova.

I’m pushing up here.
man oh man. I’m hoping all the pro-Delly guys are finally seeing what the rest of us see: the guy is a terrible basketball player (by NBA standards, of course). I have never liked him for one moment. You’re telling me you think Baron Davis isn’t better than him? please.
The downgrade from Kyrie to Delly is like comparing grade school tee-ball to the New York Yankees.
Not sure what Kyrie would learn from Baron, given that Kyrie was Baron before he improved this year.
But mostly you have to wonder what an endomorph like Baron can do two and a half years removed from the NBA. I’m sure he misses and needs the money but enough Coach Blatt hazing for one year.
Seriously, next we’ll be hearing Bynum is back in shape, has his head right and Blatt is just the man to help him along.
