Buckeyes’ Mike Weber may be envious of Roquan Smith
February 18, 2015Browns sign defensive back Varmah Sonie
February 18, 2015The one constant we have in a Browns offseason is the everlasting search for a franchise quarterback. Or even an average quarterback, for that matter.
We have already had suggestions that owner Jimmy Haslam is open to pursuing a new starter, rumors that a new QB could be had via trade up for Marcus Mariota, reports that the Browns have reached out in an attempt to re-sign Brian Hoyer, and also reports that Johnny Manziel is seeking to rehabilitate his career by first rehabilitating himself. Apparently, there can only be one Browns quarterback to remain out of the news in the offseason as Connor Shaw should have carved out the third quarterback slot on the team with his Week 17 performance against the Ravens.
So, it should be without much surprise that it is now being reported by Nate Ulrich that the Browns are expected to pursue one of the better available quarterbacks in Josh McCown,1 who was released by Tampa Bay last week.
The team has not lined up a visit with McCown yet, but it could do so soon because he’s on the organization’s radar, Cleveland.com reported Wednesday, citing an unnamed league source.
Ulrich also points to McCown’s connection to the Browns staff.
In 2007, McCown and new Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo worked together as members of the Oakland Raiders. DeFilippo was the Raiders’ quarterbacks coach at the time. McCown went 2-7 as a starter that season with 10 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.
The Browns will also reportedly have competition for Josh McCown as he has already met with the Bills and Bears, and there may be five more teams interested in his services as well. The carousel spins on.
- The Browns employed Josh’s brother Luke during the 2004 season. He went winless in four starts. [↩]

Really?
Anyone know the story on the unis? I keep hearing rumblings on the Tweetster, but nothing on my favorite Cleveland news site.
Nothing real yet. The helmet design floating around is just a fan’s concept. The new logo (which will *not* be on the helmet) will be revealed next week, and the uniforms will be unveiled after that.
Much appreciated
Not much info, but a link here…

I hope the pursuit resembles this:

is the second guy Haslam?
And the day after that, Berea burns.
So McCown or Hoyer? Or Sanchez? What else is out there?
the WFNY standbys: Locker and Mallet
Another thought: will the team be forced to put Shaw on the roster? I’d be worried after his week 17 performance that someone would snatch him off the practice squad.
Houston sports radio callers have dibs on Mallet. HE BEAT THE BROWNS!

“But I want to riot now…”
Check the word choice regarding Shaw above 🙂
What, is Jack Delhomme busy?
Gives us a pretty good idea what the Browns think about Hoyer. His star rose and faded faster than you can say Kelly Holcomb.
He put his dad on the job for this one.
No thanks
woooo. . . . kind of. Maybe, if we have to. I guess. We’re going to end with 10+ losses anyway next season, so what does it matter?
