Video: Tim Legler says Cavs upgraded with Waiters trade
January 6, 2015Dion Waiters says goodbye to Cleveland
January 6, 2015Ohio State fans who waited for the last minute to purchase Sugar Bowl tickets ended up with a pretty good deal. After the prices nearly reached a $500 average on the secondary market after the Alabama-Ohio State matchup was announced, the price dropped to a $364.30 average before the game. Fans could be seeing a similar trend for the College Football Championship Game.
Secondary market 2015 College Football Championship Game tickets on TiqIQ currently have an average price of $1122.55. That’s already down 8.8% from the average on Monday afternoon and 32% below the average from New Year’s Eve, before the Sugar Bowl was played.
Along with more expensive prices, there will be slightly more travel for Buckeyes fans from Columbus to Arlington. While there was only a 915 mile trip to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, the trip to AT&T Stadium is 1,062 miles. However, it’s unlikely a 147 mile distance will keep Buckeyes fans from attending Ohio State’s first national title game since back-to-back appearances following the 2006 and 2007 seasons. The Buckeyes lost both of those games, first 41-14 to the Florida Gators and the following year 38-24 to the LSU Tigers.
The average price makes this year’s College Football Championship Game the second least expensive national title game over the past five years. The most expensive came in the 2011 game between Auburn and Oregon with a $5,086.55 average price. However, this year’s game is still 24% above last year’s game between Florida State and Auburn. That game was the only national title game since 2011 with an average price below $1000.
Ohio State will look to once again score an upset in a playoff game. The Buckeyes defeated the Crimson Tide as an eight point underdog in the Sugar Bowl to claim a spot in the College Football Championship Game. The Buckeyes will now head into Monday night’s game as a seven point underdog against the Oregon Ducks. Ohio State has not lost a game since the September 6 game against Virginia Tech. After the game, the Buckeyes dropped into the 20s of the AP Poll before winning 11 games in a row to close out the season and get selected into the inaugural College Football Playoff.
After losing both Braxton Miller and J.T. Barrett, a championship win would not be the first time the Buckeyes overcame odds against them this season. With the ticket prices for the game continuing to drop, Ohio State fans could end up with a good deal to watch the team try.

I would assume Alabama and FSU not making it (comparatively short trips) also impacts price.
