January 6, 2015Kyle Shanahan’s status as the Browns’ offensive coordinator could be coming to end this offseason. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Shanahan has been courted by the Buffalo Bills to interview for their vacant head coaching position. The interest in Shanahan does not just stop with the Bills though either. According to Mary Kay Cabot, three teams are interested in teaming up Kyle Shanahan and his father Mike Shanahan once again. The San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, and Buffalo Bills are interested in hiring Mike Shanahan as their head coach and placing Kyle Shanahan under his father as the offensive coordinator. It is unknown though, whether the Browns will allow Kyle Shanahan to move laterally to another offensive coordinator position.
Bills requested HC interview with Browns OC Kyle Shanahan, per team source.

At least 3 teams considering Mike and Kyle Shanahan as a package deal: 49ers, Raiders and Bills. Kyle also Bills HC candidate.

So then comes the question of who could replace Kyle Shanahan as the Browns’ offensive coordinator. Well CBS’s Jason La Canfora offered a name to that the list of possible replacements for Shanahan. La Canfora reported that the Browns have reached out to Charlie Weis to possibly be the Browns’ new offensive coordinator if Shanahan leaves.
Weis’ last job was as head coach of the University of Kansas, but was fired last year. He has been an offensive coordinator for three teams in the NFL, starting with the New York Jets, then the New England Patriots, and his most recent time as a NFL offensive coordinator was with the Kansas City Chiefs. Weis definitely has the pedigree to replace Shanahan, winning three Super Bowls while he was an offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots.
Wouldn't be shocked if it played out that way. Heard Browns have reached out to guys like Charlie Weis in the event Shanahan is gone

For all his failures as a college HC (and believe me, as an ND fan, I know them all too well), his offense at ND was never the problem. I didn’t pay attention to him at Kansas at all though.
I wonder how Pettine’s no-nonsense approach would work with Weis’s ego.
If he can deal with Belichick, he can deal with Pettine.
If the Bills hire him as their head coach (I sure wouldn’t), then vaya con Dios. If I were Kyle, though, and the only options were staying as OC here or going somewhere to be an OC for my dad, I’d stay here. I would want to have as much time on my own without him as possible if I wanted people to take me seriously as a future HC candidate.
It would be nice to have someone who can actually coordinate.

Interesting article from when Weis was in KC talking to a free agent o line player.
“It is unknown though, whether the Browns will allow Kyle Shanahan to move laterally to another offensive coordinator position.”
Um, you’re under contract. No way I’d let him walk to another OC job without compensation. 3rd rounder maybe?
I agree. However, the point was made this morning on the radio that if Mike is handed ALL THE POWER He can slide into the GM role after a year or two with Kyle as the HC in waiting. Then, once Kyle is HC, he’s protected by his GM father. So I could see the appeal there.
Aren’t Belichick’s assistants somewhat over-rated because it’s really Machiavelli himself who’s making the important decisions? Also, Weis’ ego troubles me.
As head coaches yes; but sticking to their roles as coordinators they are pretty freaking good.
MIKE LEACH OR GTFO.
Interesting I wouldn’t be opposed.

Side note: Both Weis and Crennel were on Belichick’s staff…that’s got to be the biggest coordinator bookends ever, no? If they ever got together for lunch, I’m pretty sure they could shut down a Hometown Buffet by themselves.

Never forget
Do those sound like the actions of a man who had “all he could eat?”
How is Weis even being a thought? He won two Super Bowls with Tom Brady as his QB, sucked at Notre Dame, and was worse at Kansas to the point he quit on the team this year! At best he should be flipping burgers at the local McDonalds.
