Tweets of the Game: Raiders vs. Browns – First Half
October 26, 2014Cleveland Browns outlast bad Raiders team 23-13
October 26, 2014The Cleveland Browns game was a wild affair on Twitter? Did you miss it? Don’t worry. I got you.
Third Quarter
In case you forgot what the Browns are really missing, Dustin Fox reminds us all that it’s a Josh Gordon watch…
We need Josh Gordon back. Bad.

Browns open the half with a failed offensive series and punt the ball to midfield. John Telich with the funny jokes…
You get a field goal, and you get a field goal, and you get a field goal. #Browns pic.twitter.com/6FLss121U3
— .@JohnTelich8 (@JohnTelich8) October 26, 2014
The Browns showed a very strange look that had Ahtyba Rubin dropping five yards deep into short coverage. Paul Kruger went in untouched and hit Derek Carr hard, forcing a fumble. The Raiders recovered.
Kruger has been bringing it today. He may longer be the #Browns version of Nick Swisher.
— Tom Moore (@Tom_RedRight88) October 26, 2014
Carr is getting frustrated.
— Christopher Hansen (@ChrisHansenNFL) October 26, 2014
Browns fans were making so much noise they forced a delay of game on 3rd and 23 deep in Raiders territory. Field position battle. Travis Benjamin with a bad return going back and forth across the field before fumbling. Browns recover, thankfully, but this might be the last of all Travis Benjamin return experiments.
I think running back eight yards and then fumbling the ball even trumps muffing the punt.
— Ryan Lewis (@ByRyanLewis) October 26, 2014
Okay, can we just not put anybody back for returns and hope the ball hops upfield after it lands?
— Chris Fillar (@ItsFillar) October 26, 2014
Travis Benjamin fans. Get your replica jersey while you can….. #Browns
— Ryan McNaughton, M.Ed., M.A. (@RyanInNiles) October 26, 2014
Browns fans are rushing to their duct tape supply to turn Travis Benjamin jerseys into Kellen Winslow jerseys.
— Craig Lyndall (@WFNYCraig) October 26, 2014
16 carries 19 yards. Browns rushing "attack".
— Cleveland Leader (@ClevelandLeader) October 26, 2014
The Browns, meanwhile, weren’t playing offense much better in the second half than they did in the first half.
OH COOL ANOTHER FALSE START I COULD HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS COMING BECAUSE WE'RE NORMALLY SUCH A CLEAN FOOTBALL TEAM.
— sportsyelling (@sportsyelling) October 26, 2014
This game has been quite Brownsy.
— Ben Cox (@WFNYBen) October 26, 2014
#Browns punt 3rd straight possession of 2nd half and OAK starts at own 9 CLE leads 9-6 with 6:56 left in third quarter
— Fred Greetham (@FredGreetham) October 26, 2014
Whatever we are paying Alex Mack, it isn't enough.
— Mark Skog (@MarkSkog) October 26, 2014
The Browns game has devolved into tweets mocking the lack of action on the field. The NFL is a pass / fail league and all you want to do is win, but there’s something to be said for watchable football.
5 different Browns either have been flagged for a False Start or illegal formation. No excuse for that playing at home.
— Terry Pluto (@terrypluto) October 26, 2014
We are making Derek Carr look surgical.
— Eric (@illstr8r) October 26, 2014
Wanna know why the Browns are struggling with the Jags and Raiders? Because they are as bad as the Jags and Raiders…
— Aaron Goldhammer (@HammerNation19) October 26, 2014
I know Red Zone is doing its job here but we'd be fine with not seeing Browns-Raiders the rest of the day.
— Zach Harper (@talkhoops) October 26, 2014
The Browns make a huge hit on Darren McFadden and the ball flies into Joe Haden’s arms for a fumble recovery and return! Donte Whitner and Karlos Dansby combine for the giant hit and the Browns suddenly have life!
— Anthony™️ (@AnthonyG729) October 26, 2014
Andrew Hawkins catches a ball for 32 yards to end the third quarter with the Browns heading toward Oakland’s end. Browns 9, Raiders 6 with the Browns at the Raiders 21
Fourth Quarter
Brian Hoyer and the Browns score a touchdown! Hoyer rolls to his left and finds Andrew Hawkins to put the Browns up thanks to the defense forcing a big fumble. Andrew Hawkins is intent on being his son’s favorite receiver. Browns go up 16-6 on the Raiders.
Hoyer to Hawkins for 4-yard TD. #Browns make it 16-6 early in fourth quarter.
— Tom Reed (@treed1919) October 26, 2014
Blown coverage leads to first TD in seven quarters. I will take it however I can get it these days.
— Chris Fedor (@ChrisFedor) October 26, 2014
That was Hoyer's first touchdown pass since the second quarter of the Steelers game in Week 6
— August Fagerstrom (@AugustFG_) October 26, 2014
Tashaun Gipson made a big stop in the backfield on a screen pass to go with his interceptions. Gipson getting some deserved love.
Gipson is a stud. What a find.

Meanwhile, Browns fans were still rocking some Hitner…
'whitner' is now trending in #Cleveland http://t.co/MnhY7vPoBA

As always, NFL refs are under attack…
if it takes 60 secs to figure out why you threw a flag you’re doing it wrong.
— mike b. (@603_brown) October 26, 2014
Joe Haden making a good day for himself making plays… With a ten point lead in the fourth, Derek Carr took a shot against Haden who got his head around and a hand on the ball. Haden broke up another on third down to push the Raiders to fourth and five.
Joe Haden playing like an All-Pro today. #Browns
— Ryan (@Isley23) October 26, 2014
Haden, Whitner, Kruger redefining play like a Brown today
— Marla Ridenour (@MRidenourABJ) October 26, 2014
Not everyone was enjoying…
Raiders-Browns can't end soon enough. Supposed to be watching 60 Minutes.
— Busted Coverage (@bustedcoverage) October 26, 2014
Correct RT @VernThompsonNBA: Brian Hoyer is extremely lucky he hasn't thrown 3 interceptions today. Another poor performance. #Browns
— Zac Wassink (@ZacWassink) October 26, 2014
The Browns defense wanted to win the game. After the offense failed to keep it, the defense forced a fumble from Derek Carr. The Browns recover deep in Oakland territory and Mingo falls on it for the Browns. Browns take over with 3:14 and no timeouts left for Oakland.

Despite a somewhat ugly day, the box score was kind to Brian Hoyer.
Hoyer has completed 67.8% of his passes en route to a 111.8 QB rating so far. You read that correctly.
— Will Gibson (@wjcgibson) October 26, 2014
The Browns finally put it away for good. Ben Tate breaks through for a rushing touchdown and the Browns go up 22-6, soon to be 23-6.
Browns win in the end 23-13 after a garbage time TD.

Does anyone know if that super-late illegal formation call was correct? West ran the ball about 8 yards before the side ref even threw the flag. Where I was sitting you could see him running with the play, all fine, and then suddenly as West bursts through he pulls out a flag and throws it – five seconds into the play. I’ve rarely seen a more suspicious flag.
was correct. Caused by a shift before the snap.
Thanks. Then why the heck did the guy wait so long? Weird.
The QB steped back and the two then changed the formation one shifted back and one up? Was this wrong because the motion man did not get set again (IE if he would have got set longer, then went in motion it would have been ok?
Dang, I was worried someone was going to want details, which I forgot. Per Wilcots, it was something during the re-set about lining up without a man across from him. No one from the Browns bench complained.
The refs were having those long discussions all game. As if the crew chief was afraid to make a call without consulting all fellow refs as to what each saw. Horrible, especially because part of good refereeing is “selling” the call to the teams and fans. Hesitation at each call does nothing but create questions as to their confidence if not their credibility.
I don’t mean the long discussion – I mean that for an illegal formation flag, which is evident at the snap, he didn’t even reach for a flag until a few seconds after the snap – when West burst through the line.
