September 4, 2014Kyrie Irving is no stranger to summer-time injuries and it appears he may have suffered another one. In a blowout win over Ukraine in FIBA World Cup play, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ star point guard suffered what is being called a hip injury after he took a body blow underneath the hoop.
Here is the play from SI.com’s Ben Golliver:
The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter of the victory. Irving reportedly went to the locker room for further examination, one which we hope also included concussion tests after seeing how his head met the floor during the fall.
While the injury does not look bad, at least not as bad as the broken hand suffered two summers ago, it (along with the injury to Paul George) is a stark reminder of how quickly fortunes can change. It was just days ago that Irving was doing things like this.
(Update: Irving says he’s fine, but appreciates your concern over this matter.)
Im all good everybody, just a tough fall. Appreciate the concern #ontobarcelona

At least our backup PG (Delly) is capable of sharing the ball well. So, this isn’t a huge problem for the Cavs.
of course he was!!
he already tweeted that he’s fine.
yeah for reference – Kyrie Irving @KyrieIrving – 11m – Im all good everybody, just a tough fall. Appreciate the concern #ontobarcelona
I tend to agree with you. I wish we were seeing more highlights of him practicing sweet passes instead of going to the lane each time. Though I can’t see these games, so hopefully he’s dishing it out quite a bit.
Everyone he thinks Kyrie can play competitive ball from July until next June without getting hurt, stand on your head.
