The Watershed Quarterback

September 11, 2014I joked on Twitter recently how uncomfortable I’ve become with the incessant weekly talk about Johnny Manziel’s package… of plays. The Browns have continually left the door open that they might use their dynamic, athletic rookie QB to keep opposing defenses on their toes. Despite the constant TV cuts of Manziel on the sidelines, the Browns never unleashed any such plays in week one in Pittsburgh. Now, Kyle Shanahan seems to be putting it to rest.
#browns oc Kyle shanahan said he probably wouldn't use Johnny Manziel unless Brian Hoyer gets injured. Rob Ryan can relax and take night off

Or is he? Maybe it’s all part of the master plan that Shanahan downplays Johnny Manziel until (BAM!) he hits the Saints’ defensive coordinator Rob Ryan right under the chin.
Or, maybe it only makes sense for a team that only has two quarterbacks on the roster to not risk injuring the only guy who could fill in for Brian Hoyer if he happens to get hurt. Until then, I guess he’s Johnny Clipboard as the Twitter-verse has taken to calling him.
By the time Johnny Football puts the clipboard down and gets into the game this will be his roster photo. pic.twitter.com/Tyr60ExmXt

“hit….Rob Ryan right under the chins*”
/Fixed it.
Why is “for Saints game” in the headline?
