September 5, 2014Today, the Indians added some much needed offense with the activation of David Murphy from the 15-day DL. He was placed on the DL after suffering from a strained right oblique. This season in 109 games, Murphy has hit .262 with 7 home runs and 55 RBIs. The right fielder will give Terry Francona another option in the outfield and a much needed bat. The team is need of any offense after struggling scoring runs over the last couple weeks.
The Tribe also recalled infielder Justin Sellers from AAA Columbus. Sellers has appeared with the Indians in just seven games. In his 16 at-bats, he is 3 for 16 with three walks. In 102 games with AAA Columbus, Sellers was hitting .254 with three home runs and 40 RBIs. He gives the team more infield depth especially with his versatility to play multiple positions.
The Indians are coming off a tough series with the Detroit Tigers, losing three of four games. The team is now six games behind the first place Kansas City Royals and five games behind the Detroit Tigers for the second wild card spot. For the Indians to make the playoffs, they are probably in need of another super win streak like the one they had at the end of last season.
