Tribe Weekend Recap: Bullpen saviors, struggling offense, Swish’s return, and the bunt
June 16, 2014WFNY on the World Cup: Group G Breakdown
June 16, 2014The confetti has yet to be cleaned up in San Antonio, but this won’t stop fervent discussions about LeBron James and his impending (potential) free agency. Rockets forward Chandler Parsons, who is also staring at free agency, predicts that the Heat forward will leave Miami this summer and possibly reunite with the Cavaliers franchise that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2003.
Speaking on Fridayâs Sportsnation broadcast, the 25-year-old swingman rightfully predicted that James would finish the season short of his third NBA championship. He also used this prediction as ammunition for the four-time MVP to leave the Heat team he joined in 2010.
âI think if they would have won the championship, it would have been a different story and they would have come back to do it again,” said Parsons. “IÂ think heâs done all he can do there, and itâs time for him to move on.â

The Rockets are one of three teams reportedly set to make a serious bid at landing Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony this summer.  The two other clubs are the Bulls andâof courseâthe Heat.
Buckle up, kids. The roller coaster is about to leave the concourse.

No way LeQuit goes to the West. Too much competition.
He’ll stay in the East where he can dominate, and reach the Finals every year with minimal effort.

I think LBJ, Wade, and Bosh stay in Miami this year, but that the team jettisons a lot of the dead weight on that roster.
Pretty stupid post all-around dude.
Obviously if Chandler Parsons says this is happening…. WELCOME BACK LEBRON!
Time will prove me right.
Dude.
Nothing is final until confirmed by Bill Simmons.
and only confirmed is Simmons approves of it.
Do you know what makes me laugh?
Shaq and Steve Nash and Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan and really most NBA superstars make the players around them look so much better than they really are and other NBA teams overpay for their services, while new role players fit in and look better than they really are on those star’s teams.
LeBron has had role players have big games, but overall the entire focus is on how he provided for his team but everyone else disappointed. You cannot blame him, right?

I just find that an absolutely amazing mini-story within the larger context here.
all you’ve proven is that you’re a bitter NE Ohioan calling the greatest player ever “LeQuit” – which tells me all i need to know about your prediction.
Well, since Chris Andersen & Norris Cole are their only players guaranteed under contract right now, yes they are loosing a lot of players. Will Allen, Haslem, Battier, Chalmers, Douglas, Jones, Lewis, Beasley or Oden resign and can they replace them w/anything decent if they don’t?
That’s an interesting take. I think one of the big differences is that LeBron is, well, better than all the guys you name above. Different sure, but in terms of sheer ability to handle every single aspect of the game? He’s at the top.
2-3 in the Finals. Pretty sure that is a pre-requisite on judging G.O.A.T. players. So, while he is an absolutely amazing player and the best right now, he is going to have a tough time comparing to Duncan and Jordan and such.
plenty of time to change things, but it’s a weighty stat nonetheless (yes, he gets points for getting to 5 Finals, but if you want to say G.O.A.T., then what he did when he got there matters even more).
The east is awful and they went the past 4 years, how is that stupid?
“yes, he gets points for getting to 5 Finals . . . .” Ha – I’d say he certainly does! Especially considering one of those years was in Cleveland!
so, then he should be able to make it even easier for those around him and more should fall on his shoulders. that is how it works.
and I said he is the best player right now. but, you want to claim greatest of all time, then losing 3 of 5 Finals matters.
He’s going to go/stay where he has the best chance of winning. That’s clearly in the East. go troll somewhere else.
I don’t disagree. I just think he has, really. Watching this year’s finals was like watching the Cavs-Spurs final. Put all the attention on LBJ and make the other guys beat you. Obviously Miami’s supporting cast is far superior to what the Cavs had back then, but nobody can do it ALL.
The idea that he’s scared to go to a team in the West? Stupid. The idea that reaching the Finals every year with minimal effort is a goal? Stupid. The east being weaker – fact, not stupid. I may have been unclear.
I can’t argue with that.
Jordan had 6 rings through 13 seasons. James has 2 through 11 seasons. He’s got a long way to go to be considered better.
That’s certainly a legit opinion. I think it’s apples and oranges, but that’s also an opinion.
He was afraid to shoulder a championship team himself that’s why he went to Miami – to lighten the burden. I believe he’s made comments about wanting to lighten his load during the regular season too, so he can be fresh for the playoffs. He’s all about taking the easy way out.
My vernacular will have no influence on the accuracy of my prediction.
He left Cleveland because the organization is a loser organization and he wanted to win. I don’t think it was the easier way out at all. Look at what the doofus owner said about him right after he leaves – he wasn’t going to win in Cleveland.
Nor, apparently, on the accuracy of your use of the word “vernacular.” đ
My use of the word vernacular is correct.
Vernacular: using a language or dialect native to a region or country rather than a literary, cultured, or foreign language.
ie. NE Ohioan referring to Mr. James as LeQuit, as opposed to the greatest of all time.
I agree, he wasn’t going to win in that situation, because he was never good enough to carry the team to a championship. He’s probably the best player playing right now, but he is far from being called the greatest of all time. You have to earn a title like that. You’d have to do something like carrying a team to a championship, but he was never capable of doing that. So he has to go where other guys can put him over the top. Not saying that’s a terrible thing – just saying he isn’t all that great.
Agreed – at what point is the “LeBron needs more help” story line more joke than fact?
Even if you make the “Wade is past his prime” and “Bosh is overrated” arguments, the Spurs 3 are all past their prime, and Bosh and Wade are still better than anyone who was on the Cavs in 2007.
Sad footnote – it was really 7 years ago that the Cavs were in the finals. That is so long ago.
Without looking too deep into the issue, I can’t imagine that most/all of those players would be overly difficult to replace.
Haslem wasn’t good when he was “good.”
If Wade is past his prime, Battier is a dinosaur.
Chalmers could literally be any other PG in the league.
Lewis was largely worthless.
Oden was actually worthless.
I was surprised to learn Beasely was still in the league.
etc.
Jordan also played with a top 50 player of all time. And another hall of famer. Sure DWade is maybe a top 100 and gets into the hall of fame. Those Bulls teams were much much better than the Cavs/Heat. Better coached by far as well.
hey, i could be wrong, but i’d call it a colloquialism (sometimes, but not always part of a vernacular) – given that it ain’t native, but rather learned. via bitterness. but your point is clear – and i’m not trying to out-nerd you here.
Just saying – they have a bunch of garbage (that’s unsigned) and Battier/Allen are probably retiring. I don’t really think they have much if any financial flexibility to replace these guys with any significant players.
Ah – yeah we completely agree then.
Yeah, I was thinking colloquialism.
I can live with that.
I don’t agree with that train of thought. I don’t think LeBron is afraid of any competition – and he shouldn’t be. He is by far the best player in the league and if he wanted to go west to prove a point, he would. But i think he stays in Miami.
to be fair, he still has a good 5-7 more years of knocking on the door each season, so I just don’t think it’s fair to compare his body of work (11 seasons) to Duncan and Jordan (17 and 15 seasons, respectively) just yet. Both Jordan and Duncan did some damage late in their careers.
This is a non-story and I can’t believe I saw it on SI.com as well. Some dude on an ESPN game show said he thinks he knows what Lebron is going to do. Not a story.
agreed, but km was trying to claim it now. you cannot claim it until it is. he can project that he will become G.O.A.T. at this pace, but we all once thought Tiger Woods would be the G.O.A.T. golfer too (Jack Nicklaus smiles).
JFF it, dude. Let’s go bowling.
Oh no. You’re not one of those people are you? Make me the argument why Nicklaus was better than tiger.
Major tournament field sizes are bigger, and regular tournaments are way bigger. Woods competes against hundreds of professional golfers each week while Nicklaus competed against only a handful – the rest were journeymen with a bag and a set of irons.
Golf courses were routinely altered to prevent Tiger Woods from running away with the tournament.
Tangible arguments:
Woods has lowest career PGA scoring average (adjusted and unadjusted)
Woods has won more tournaments than Nicklaus (of course he plays more)
Woods has most consecutive weeks at World #1
Woods owns the margin of victory records at The Masters and at the US Open
Woods owns or shares the best score at the US Open, The Masters, and The PGA.
Jack Nicklaus also said Tiger is the best golfer ever. He changed everything.
Your turn…
Tiger did change everything and golfing is incredibly more difficult now than it was in the age of Nicklaus.
However, when making these comparisons, I feel you need to do a peer comparison and how you dominated for your era. Nicklaus still won a larger % of the tournaments he entered and was very close on % of top10 finishes (and realize that both % fell dramatically as he stuck around the PGA tour much, much longer than his peak). Now, I haven’t checked on the % in awhile, but they should be about right still or favor Nicklaus.
Obviously, the big one is total Major wins. Tiger should have shattered it, but it doesn’t look likely that he will reach him anymore. Tiger had a higher peak, but Jack lasted longer.
I can see the argument going either way really, but I guess my point was that it didn’t even seem feasible that it would even be an argument just 3 years ago.
Lebron is going back to Cleveland because the buzz around the Browns and Johnny Football taking that team to new heights. He wants to be around success…. that’s just him. He’s an ego maniac like his idol Obama. The only thing that sucks for the Spurs is they have to get invited to the White House to meet that douchebag.
Plus Lebron wants to go there and show out and tell them who to draft at #1. He’s everything you don’t want to teach your kids about in sports. Duncan however, total class act. Competitor and great role model for athletes.
Exactly. I get the Lebron hate and Jordan love, but get tired of that line of criticism. Those Bulls teams, especially for the first three-peat, were exceptionally well constructed. Lots of talent, role players, and depth.
As a kid, nothing annoyed me more than watching a Carthwright, Longley, King, Perdue, etc. cycle of big men taking six or seven minutes of court time to pound on a poor, winded Daugherty or Hot Rod.
Battier said he’s done
BOOOM! Ring between the eyes man. lol.
Boom!! Right between the eyes man! lol
