WFNY on the World Cup: Germany/Portugal and what it means for the USMNT

June 17, 2014On Monday, the Cleveland Browns released an update on the renovation of FirstEnergy Stadium.
The artist renderings weren’t much different from what they released back when the project was announced last November. Well, except for some updates to the signage.
Here is the new image for the East scoreboard:
And here is the old:
Subtle difference no? Gone is the Cleveland Clinic signage, as the Browns have changed partners in that regard to University Hospitals. Not sure why Discount Drugmart lost their spot, but they have added a Bud Light sign.
Of course, that isn’t the only place the Cleveland Clinic’s name had to be scrubbed from:
The Cleveland Clinic gate is now the University Hospitals gate.
And here is the West scoreboard to complete the pictures:
The team also provided some stats on the two video boards and renovation in general.
The two main 40-foot by 192-foot angled video boards:
– Will be NFL’s fourth largest in 2014
– 6,900 sq. ft., nearly tripled in size
– Equivalent in size to 645 60-in. HD TVs
– Comparable to avg. U.S. home (2,200 sq. ft.) with full-size basketball court (4,700 sq. ft.)
– Placed end-to-end, two scoreboards (384 ft.) are taller than Rhodes Tower (373 ft.)
– 192 feet across the top, 178 feet across the middle, 132 feet across the bottom
The renovation to date:
— Approximately 175 workers onsite.
— Removed more than 5.5 million pounds of materials.
— Already installed more than 2 million pounds of steel.
— Poured more than 13.3 million pounds of concrete.
The Browns are installing what they call a ‘best in class’ modern audio system. The speakers are the same design used for major concert events. They have also added loudspeaker locations, particularly those in ‘shadowed’ areas.
There is still lots of work to be done of course, but it appears they are on schedule to be done when the season kicks off. Here are some twitpics from a tour that the team gave some members of the media Monday.

No updates on the halftime entertainment? How is wiener dog training going? Any new participants? Retirements? Rules changes?
Has Johnny Wiener Dog cracked the starting grid, yet?

Heard somewhere that the video screens are shaped in the form of Tennessee as an homage to Haslam’s home state. Not sure if it’s true, but to me they look sort of odd, like a drunken crane operator swung it around and chipped a piece off the bottom.
Hmmm…

I have a hard time believing this will all be done for preseason. Maybe it’s just me but it looks about 25% done.
I don’t really see Tennessee. I think the shape is more of a result of making them match the sharp angles of the surrounding structures, not just a typical rectangle.
Man, I shouldn’t be telling you this inside knowledge because it could get my source in trouble. But, Johnny Ben Hur is deep in training to dominate the wiener dog circuit this season:

Nice.
But, I hear Conner Sausage is looking strong.

Connor Snausage is a great prospect, but he’s going to have to build up his strength before he’ll become a real threat.
