May 7, 2014The draft rumor mill hit warp speed on Tuesday night as NFL insider Jay Glazer went on FOX national radio and declared that the Browns have no interest in drafting QB Johnny Manziel with their fourth pick.
BREAKING NEWS: "The Cleveland Browns will not draft Johnny Manziel" – @JayGlazer on air with @JTTheBrick
— FOX Sports Radio (@FoxSportsRadio) May 6, 2014
He was as clear as he could be later on his own twitter account.
Browns won't be drafting Manziel at #4. I know it's been out there a ton that they will but no that's not how they have it
— Jay Glazer (@JayGlazer) May 6, 2014
Don't know how I can make this clearer for those arguing against it: CLE would take ME over Manziel at 4 & I totally botched the Wonderlic

Can we fast-forward 48 hours? It would make this so much less annoying…
He NEVER said “The Browns will not draft Johnny Manziel.” Every time he said that, he didn’t go without saying “at #4.” There’s a chance he’s saying the Browns aren’t interested in him, but I find that very hard to believe given what we’ve all been hearing over these last few months. I’m willing to bet the Browns want desperately to trade down with the Falcons so they can get an extra 3rd round pick, then take Manziel there instead of taking him straight up at 4. They’re probably pretty sure he’ll be available until at least the 7th pick with Tampa Bay, so they want to maximize the value they can get while still getting their QB of the future. I’m just speculating on what he’s saying, I could be totally wrong, but this would honestly be a very smart move by Farmer & Co.
god i hate the draft so much – make it stop. make it end. worst event ever in sports – worse than than anything WNBA related
as an analyst you have a HUGE chance to be correct by saying that a team won’t draft a certain player, especially at an exact spot. It’s like when Holmgren said that Manziel won’t be a star in the league. I mean, how many guys get to be stars in this league? It’s overwhelmingly better, odds-wise, to predict gloom over boom for any player.
So why do we even care? we don’t. Even the guys over at MMQB are sick of the not-draft. I hope the NFL goes back to the old schedule next year.
Is this suppose to be bad news?
Depends.
What’s Glazer’s 40 time?
2 words: Hand Size
At some point during a channel surf last night, I heard this
nightmare scenario thrown against the wall: the Browns not only draft
Manziel, they TRADE UP to the top spot to get him, giving up our #35
along with our #4 to do so.
The fact that this horror was even contemplated by somebody is enough to induce a panic attack.
I’d rather take Glazer over John Pigskin at #4–or any other spot, for that matter. With apologies to Craig, Manziel is the opposite of a safe pick. Now can we just get an actual round of drafting over with already?
Our man Craig said that Manziel is not only a safe pick, but “THE SAFEST” pick.
Oy.
Two more: eye speed
ya know who else has large (9.5″) hands?
it’s terrific news if you enjoy the wailing and gnashing of teeth and rending of garments in the DBN forum.
[… sneaks over and posts using the subject line just to push them over the edge …]
The way Glazer is phrasing this, it sounds like he is deliberately saying “at pick #4”, which leaves the window open for the Browns to move UP to grab Manziel (and I think they probably would have to… I think Jacksonville grabs him if he’s there at #3).
All of this being said, it’s silly season, so I don’t put any stock into anything anyone says because why in the world would anyone tell a reporter the truth?
Whoops just saw your comment after posting something similar. I’m expecting the Browns could go the other way and move up to get in front of the Jaguars, but who knows.

DBN forums are too depressing and stodgy. Not nearly as lively as this bunch of jokers. đ

The local guys are reporting the Falcons REALLY want Clowney and are trying to move up, and that Jax is shopping their pick.
For what it’s worth.
I think every team at the top of the draft is shopping their pick… for the right price.
I’m stuck listening to ATL/JAX sportstalk in the afternoon.

That subject line is a big no-no, with no rational reason as to why.
If I’m Houston, then I’d take Clowney or trade him to Atlanta and take my chances Mack drops (worst case: you get Watkins or Evans, oh darn).
Seriously, with JJ Watt, I don’t think that I’d worry about the red flags nearly as much for Clowney. And, they can show him what Mario Williams made as extra motivation if necessary.
Thinking….I’d probably trade down with Atlanta if I liked a QB enough. That way they could take Mack (Watkins or Evans) at #6, then trade back up to get their QB (using some but not all the assets they obtained – definitely would keep a ’15 1st out of any other discussions). Despite what Phil Savage says, it isn’t a doomed philosophy. Just gotta pick the correct QB to back.
I’m with Rick James regarding the originator of that opinion

I have no doubt that any one our previous regimes would do something like that.
Speaking of which.
This deep draft makes this a great year to trade back, stockpile some picks, and still draft a quality player.
BUT, until Ray proves otherwise, I’m still scared s***less.

They’ve already stockpiled picks.
yessir. but, I am with RGB in that I think we can get more starters out of our stockpile by leveraging them into as many top60 picks as possible.
to do so, it may mean a small trade-down from #4. I think that could be fruitful (#26 is just outside the range of the guys I want in the 1st round – likely, until someone drops of course).
I support a trading out of #4 only if:
1. Watkins (And presumably Clowney) is gone.
2. We stay in the top 10, and can get Evans.
I think our best chance of trading #4 is if Clowney is the bait (Manziel, Robinson, Watkins drafted 1-3).
I agree Evans would be a target. Ebron and Gilbert would be my other targets (depending on where we landed). I’d be happy with any of those 3 guys.
I’m optimistic we could see some wheeling and dealing tomorrow.
Should be a fun draft.
if the Browns trade up, this draft could be a doozy!
i’ll back you up one more time here.
plus, i would love for the Browns to package all 5th round picks or later in a deal/deals to move up and obtain more 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounders.
hunh-uh. He said the Browns would take Glazer himself over Manziel at 4. Which means if Manziel is there, they won’t take him. As in THEY DON’T LIKE HIM. You can’t be more clear.
I believe it, because I don’t see what he has to gain being this emphatic. It has to be a deliberate leak out of the Browns, maybe trying to be the ones that make the trade-back rather than say those STL assholes. Maybe STL is spreading the thing about the Browns taking him to tempt the Vikes up, and this is the Browns quashing it.
Am I right, or am I right? Or am I right?
