Nate Burleson re-injures fractured arm
May 10, 20142014 NFL Draft: Browns trade away their seventh-round pick
May 10, 2014The Cleveland Browns continued their stockpiling of defensive backs with their selection in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The Browns picked cornerback Pierre Desir from Lindenwood University. Desir is a 6-foot-1-inch, 198-pound corner who will bring the team even more depth in the secondary. He is considered a raw player with a lot of upside because of his height and athleticism. Desir is considered a press corner, which is something Pettine wants in his new defense. He played in both the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl during the pre-draft process. Desir will probably start out as a special team contributor, while he learns to play corner in the NFL. The Browns were definitely looking at his potential when making this selection.
“I think the NFL has shown that there are a lot of small-school guys that can go in and make an impact” Desir said following his selection. “I think I’m one of those guys that can go in and compete and show everyone what I can do and just go out there and play football.”
The Browns continue to go the route of picking the best player available on their board and not going off it for a need. Even with their obvious need of a wide receiver, the team is sticking to their board. The team has one more draft pick left in the seventh barring a trade.

$hamrok gets sticking to your board but when your prospective WR corps entering the season is Little, Benjamin, Hawkins and a 1 armed Burleson $hamrok thinks you need to go off board and get a WR. Thank goodness they signed Hawkins otherwise $hamrok would feel even worse about the whole thing of passing on a WR trading down etc etc etc etc.
No one loves the Browns’ draft more than Josh Cooper. He gets to be an NFL wide receiver for another year! I should be more upset with that, but I actually wouldn’t mind seeing what he can do. I thought he showed good hands and good route-running. The only thing is, I don’t know how many slot receivers a team can find catches for.
Good story behind this pick…http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2048118-for-nfl-prospect-pierre-desir-its-always-been-fatherhood-then-football
You mean the one that Joe linked to in the post?
I don’t think Shamrock should sleep on Charles Johnson.
but Ray is one step ahead of you. 1. there’s only so many roster spots for all these WRs = UFAs and summer cuts. and 2. Almost every team has now drafted a WR, demand is nearing zero and most of the receivers available at the Pierre Desir pick, will still be around much later.
Who is this Charles Johnson of whom you speaK?
The Matthew Delavadova of the Browns?
“not going off it for a need”. You joking? Every pick was for a need. CB,QB,OL,LB,RB,CB. A cover LB is a big need. BYE BYE McFadden.
I love this pick. I think this kid can have an impact. Big and able to make plays.
I’m not at all against what the browns have done. I would rather have had who they got over the best available WR at about every pick. Figure Hoyer plays this year behind an improved line, with more time to throw. Then, next year we draft a #1 WR with Buffalo’s top-10 pick, and a playmaking LB with out own pick. Insert Manziel, and voila.
Yes, missed it…sorry about that.
I still can’t figure out why they didn’t draft a single WR (yet) given the Gordon suspension. One of you lovely folks spelled out the options earlier, but none of them seem to ring true. It seems to me that perhaps they are overestimating the talent on the existing roster? I understand drafting the best talent on the board but we are about to have zero viable NFL 1s or even 2s at WR.
In the meantime, though, when we are 2-7 the unwashed millions will be calling for The Football Man to step in, as well as the heads of the entire front office. Hoyer can only throw to Cameron so many times.
Not sure why they didn’t take a receiver. Maybe they know something we don’t. Or they are going to trade or sign one.
let build some site about this, check it out
How u doin’?
Whatever helps you sleep at night 🙂
Not arguing with the fact that he’s a need, but he’s not a cover LB. DB only.
“… go the route of picking the best player available on their board and not going off it for a need …”
CB2-need
QB2-need
OG/OT-need
Cover ILB-need
long CB depth-need
RB2-need
(and gaining an extra mid/early first round pick in 2015–BONUS).
while WR2 was a need going into the draft, it was one of many. this foolishness that you simply draft a WR1 of josh gordon’s stature by picking a WR somewhere in the draft is on par with the ‘just draft a franchise QB’ nonsense.
as farmer patiently explained in his presser, the picks are designed to work together to build a team. (ie, you dont draft a rush linebacker at #6 when you have a good one and signed two in free agency.)
this draft is a homerun.
