December 23, 2013The Raid of Pilot Flying J – WFNY Top 10 Cleveland Sports Stories of 2013: No. 7
December 23, 2013It would have been easy for the Browns to avoid the personal foul penalty at the end of the first half that gave the Jets a field goal try. That try, you will remember, was converted so the Jets could tie it up at 10 after going scoreless for all but the last two minutes or so of the first half. The Browns could have avoided that penalty by just not touching the Jets’ QB as he ran out of bounds. That would have been too easy. Whether or not it was a penalty is also not without doubt though after you see this replay of the giant flop.
It’s also noteworthy that the official closest to the play recognized the flop and was standing his ground that it wasn’t a penalty. The other official flew in from further away, possibly influenced by Rex Ryan’s enormous hissy-fit, to throw the flag for fifteen.
There’s very little doubt that this activity would draw a fine in the NBA where it’s illegal to trick referees and make them look stupid by flopping.

Geno Smith should be a soccer player.
That flop was worse then Cam Newton’s but Gipson was stupid for even touching him.
I like how Gipson stood his ground, even in the Jets bench. That made me like even more than I have this season.
Now if he would of gotten into it with Rex Ryan, I would have ran out, bought his jersey, and offered to pay his salary for this season.
Why is he even touching him though? He’s so far out of bounds he had no reason to touch him. Flop, yes, but could have been prevented by simply not toughing him.
Well, not like we was jobbed by the refs – consider the roughing the passer call against the Jets in the red zone. That one wasn’t even assisted by player dramatics or a head coach screaming and throwing his arms in the ref’s face. We benefited from just a joke of a call.
That’s called being fatigued and frustrated.
I’ll get in Rex Ryan’s face and you can pay me Gipson’s salary for this season…
He was pushed while out of bounds and that is a penalty. Stupid play by Gipson.
I don’t remember the ref’s ever being this bad. The number of horrible calls this season is disgraceful. I’m not talk about just the browns, it’s the whole league. Every game I watch is a disaster.
