The Diff: Fun Cleveland Cavs facts fans keep forgetting
July 17, 2013NFL News: Trent Richardson “I have no pain at all”; will be ready for training camp
July 17, 2013Yesterday on ArsTechnica they were talking about the original Nintendo NES turning 30 years old. I posted the link and then got a little nostalgic this morning. I wanted to see if my favorite games were the same as other WFNY readers, so I took to the Facebook page to ask. It’s the MLB all-star break. The NBA summer league isn’t my thing. The Browns aren’t in training camp yet. Why not talk a little bit about video games?
Anyway, here are the results.1
Game | Votes |
Tecmo Bowl (franchise) | 11 |
Zelda | 6 |
Contra | 3 |
North vs. South | 3 |
Duck Tales | 2 |
Final Fantasy | 2 |
Mario 3 | 2 |
Mega Man (franchise) | 2 |
Punch Out | 2 |
Other games receiving mentions Baseball Stars, Bionic Command, Double Dribble, Duck Hunt, Gyromite, Metroid, MLB Baseball, Ninja Turtles2 RBI Baseball, River City Ransom, Star Fox
Wait, Star Fox? Must be a younger reader. Wasn’t that for Super Nintendo? Anyway, my vote was for Duck Tales, personally. Something about that game just grabbed me and made me want to play addictively. Super Mario 2 was my favorite of the Mario series. Floating/Flying Princess all the way.3
Here is TD’s list…
1. Tecmo Super Bowl
2. Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out
3. Mario 3
4. Contra
5. Duck Tales
Scott’s list…
2. TMNT 2: The Arcade Game
3. Mega Man 3
4. Mario 3
5. Mario 2
- These aren’t super scientific in any way shape or form. I took votes for Tecmo Bowl and its sequel and combined them. Same with Mega Man. I didn’t have to do that with Mario 3 as its two votes were specifically in favor of that one game. [↩]
- Not sure it this meant the arcade game or the adventure one. I liked both of them. [↩]
- Go ahead and make your jokes. I can take it. [↩]

Um… The famicom turns 30 not the NES. The NES came out in 1985
Meh!! Same system, more or less. Just enjoy this moment of people reflecting on a time where real gaming was the norm.
I don’t remember playing Bad Dudes before. how difficult was it?
Zelda, Super Tecmo Bowl, Tetris, Dr. Mario, Metroid, Contra, Ninja Gaiden, TMNT, TMNT2, Mike Tysons Punch Out,
No love for Gradius, Star Tropics, RC Pro AM or Crystalis? I was also a fan of Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Crap…forgot about 1942. LOL
What about 1943? /whimper/
I don’t think I’ve ever played that one. At least not for NES.
Leave a message..pro wrestling… starman’s backflip kick…
if you aren’t the Giants I take nothing from someone’s claim that they are the best. I can beat anyone with Dallas, however. That Walker buttonhook was unstoppable.
1. Zelda
2. Tecmo Super Bowl
3. Metal Gear
I named my son Link, BTW.
Zelda, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and Super Mario World
Most underrated 8 bit sports game of all time is Dusty Diamond’s All-Star Softball. Non-Sports games: Bubble Bobble, Thunder and Lightning and BattleToads.
Bubble Bobble was a bit fun too…I just wouldn’t have put it in my Top 25.
Super Mario World was SNES
IIRC, Bad Dudes was a game sort of similar to Double Dragon
Read carefully. Never said I was the best. Said I never lose with the Giants.
It was kinda hard. Do you remember Double Dragon? It was almost a ripoff of that. They were very similar
lol your comment somehow loaded after mine. I saw that you were the only one with Ninja Gaiden. That game was hard if i remember. You ever play goonies?
Perfect. I always hate to see the Konami code without the “select”. It always makes me think the person didn’t have any friends and always played alone.
Tecmo Bowl
Mike Tyson’s Punchout 007 373 5963 code to get to tyson
RBI Baseball
Baseball Stars
Zelda
Any Konami game
I think I played it once or twice (though it might have been on a ROM).
Ninja Gaiden was a bit tough. Could be downright frustrating at times. LOL
Little League Baseball, the greatest baseball game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. (Note: made by SNK, same as Baseball Stars)
Ever won a World Series with Italy? Angelo hitting bombs from the cleanup spot is a must.
MUCH love!
Dragon Warrior was amazing…. the first time I FINALLY made it to the Dragonlord, he was impressed with my skills having made it that far and offered that I join him in evil. I said “Yes.” He said “Ha ha ha.” And the game ended. Had to make it all the way to him from the start again in order to fight him!
So THAT’s what happens if you say, “yes!” That took cajones, sir.
no, i think you are misunderstanding me – i was giving you love. most people say they love being the bears or niners. but they are also the guys that think Cap Boso and that Pass-3 on San Fran are both unstoppable. With NYG you can intercept both. that’s why the Giants rule. Plus, you can never complete an extra point on them.
thank you
