July 28, 2013While We’re Waiting… Trade deadlines and concussions
July 29, 2013The Cleveland Indians are being linked to current San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Javier Lopez.
Multiple teams interested in Javier Lopez of the Giants, who has allowed an earned run in one of his last 33 outings. http://t.co/hMld0MGWjH

Want to know where the trade market is? The Giants are asking teams for a major league-ready starting pitcher for Javier Lopez.

About Javier Lopez: Remember, he pitched for Francona in Boston; he'd fit in CLE, which is looking for a lefty.

With Major League Baseball’s trade deadline looming, the Indians—widely considered to not be a major player—continue to have significant struggles in their bullpen, predominantly from the left side. ESPN’s Buster Olney reports that “multiple” teams are interested in the left-hander who has 1.184 WHIP, striking out 27 batters in 25 innings of work. Appearing in 45 games this season, Lopez, 36, has allowed just one run in his last 33 appearances.
Lopez spent time with current Indians manager Terry Francona, pitching in Boston between 2006-2010. Through his career, he has held left-handed hitters to a .604 OPS, allowing just nine home runs in 817 at-bats.
The Indians have cycled through several left-handers in the bullpen this season, including Scott Barnes, Nick Hagadone, David Huff, and Rich Hill. Only Hill remains on the 25-man roster. They have also been linked to Colorado Rockies left-hander Josh Outman.

which sp would they have to give up? Meyers? haha
Just bring up Danny Salazar for some relief innings. If he will be pitching in AAA, why not have him up here doing work and not having to give up anyone to get the type of pitcher they want?
Salazar is not a LHP.
Let’s be clear before the next story based on this tweet is “persistent reports of Tribe pursuing Lopez.” Olney does not claim info that the Indians are “one of multiple teams interested,” or that they are in discussions. Just a baseball writer musing about good fits. Not a rumor.
Thank you. I feel better now. Still shaking off the effects of “Rumor: Cavs taking Len” and “Rumor: Browns consider trade up to take Geno Smith.”
McCallister? Then we could bring up Salazar.
“Browns considering trading #6 overall to Patriots for Ryan Mallet” is still my favorite.
No.
Absolutely not.
I assume that was a typo, typo
I was relieved when the browns didnt draft smith. i was really sweating it every pick leading up to to ours until we picked Mingo.
I want Outman..as long as he lives up to his name.

well, we won’t be getting Veras. crazy that an okay closer can command the #4 prospect in your organization (Danry Vasquez – OF – though at A-ball) along with a PTBNL.
Tigers making their move though. and making it hard to keep up.
Is getting Veras bad or good for Detroit tho? He wasn’t exactly Earth shattering in Houston. At least it wasn’t Nathan. If Texas would have ever traded him to Detroit they’d have had to have had their heads examined.
A second tier starter maybe or as Natedawg suggests Myers but no way is a left handed specialist = to a ML starter.
Angels might have Scott Downs available I’d check on him.
Don’t know a lot about Veras but 19-22 in save situations is an obvious upgrade to the dreck the Tigers have.
But what’s really fascinating is there’s a blog about the Astros. [Hey, we have a professional sports team above .500. Gotta grab those moments of insufferable smugness whenever you can].
Jesus! Everyones gotta stop picking on me. I didnt say I would support such a move. I was mearly speculating on Mr Olney’s speculation, which starting pitcher would be moved.
Not all #4 prospects are created equal. Vasquez is . . . intriguing. But he’s pretty far off from contributing both in terms of years and development.
Veras won’t be closer he’s setup man for Benoit.
Carrasco would be the most I give up
Scratch Downs the Braves just traded for him.
Scratch Downs – sounds like a great boxing name
Dick Trickle is my professional name!
I know this is a pitching thread, but what would you guys think of the Tribe adding Chooch Ruiz? We need bullpen help I know, but what about bringing in Ruiz and have Santana bounce between first and DH. I think adding Ruiz would help our staff for the remainder of the year as well. I know this could stunt Santana’s development, but I don’t think most see him as a catcher in the future anyway.
“mearly” speculating…talk about a typo…
Brett Myers is ready to start.
but, start what?
(A) Serving up Homers in a AA rehab assignment
(B) Spending the $7mil we are paying him this season
(C) Another 2nd half of the season on the South Side of Chicago
Oh, please let it be (C)
really? why?
Well according to SI.com because Jim Leyland decided it would be that way.
Ruiz hasn’t been the same offensively since they took away his PEDs dispenser. He’d be an upgrade defensively over Santana but I kinda like Gomes.
