April 10, 2013(Update 3:35pm: The Indians have optioned starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco to Triple-A Columbus)
The Indians will send right-hander Corey Kluber to the mound to try and stop the bleeding for Cleveland’s starting pitchers against New York. Kluber will be added to the active roster following Carlos Carrasco’s meltdown last night which ended with Carrasco plunking Kevin Youkilis immediately after giving up a home run to Robinson Cano.
RHP COREY KLUBER will start (2013 debut) tonight vs the Yankees. A move will be made this afternoon regarding Kluber’s spot on the roster
— Cleveland Indians (@Indians) April 10, 2013
Kluber makes his first start of the season for the Indians. He has made one major league start in his career, with five additional appearances.
The Indians will face RHP Ivan Nova who was roughed up in his first start against the Tigers.
The Indians will need to make a move to add Kluber to the active roster. Sending Carrasco down is an option, as is putting Carlos Santana on the 15 day DL if they feel his injury will take longer to heal than the initial report of 2 or 3 days.

Indians already leading MLB with seventh different pitcher to start a game this season. This could climb to double digits more due to ineffectiveness rather than injury. The FO definitely has to be looking at upgrading the rotation, as the bullpen will get shredded with the bad starts outside of Masterson (looking like an ace outpitching Cy Young winners) and McAllister (he pitched 6 innings his last start and has upward potential).
and Kazmir certainly will make 8 once he’s healthy. crazy year.
I read that potential roster move as: “Antonetti is desperately praying for a rainout so that the Indians can avoid bringing up Kluber entirely.”
Jon Lester is a FA this offseason. Odds Tito makes a push?
Question – If they bring up Kluber & option Carrasco, & the game does in fact get rained out, will they have to keep Kluber a certain amount of time before sending him back down & bringing Carrasco back up (if they so wish)?
Kluber can go back down, but Carrasco has to wait ten days before coming back up, unless a pitcher goes on the DL.
Rained out, which is great because it means we can’t lose!
Thanks. I was unsure. Not that it matters much now. But thank you.
I thought it was McAllister’s turn anyways.
