October 2, 2012Relief, Blame, and Where We Go From Here: On Manny Acta and the Next Tribe Manager
October 2, 2012In Paul Hoynes’ PD notebook last night, he shared what might be the most outrageous story in the Indians manager vacancy news cycle:
One more candidate: Former Tribe slugger Albert Belle said he threw his hat into the ring with an email to President Mark Shapiro asking for an managerial interview.“I’m just like Robin Ventura and Mike Matheny were last year,” said Belle with a laugh, referring to the White Sox and Cardinals bosses. “I’m sitting on my couch waiting for my phone to ring.”
Belle is currently rehabbing his left hip after having “resurfacing” surgery on it about 10 weeks ago.
I’m pretty sure most interviews for professional sport coaching positions don’t work this way. Someone should tell Joey that.

Lol
Since when did Hoynes start giving The Onion inspiration for their sports section?
It would surely boost attendance. Just imagine his first argued call. Scary, no matter how many new leaves he’s turned over.
To be totally honest, I wouldn’t be shocked if Albert got back into the bigs as a hitting coach. If he didn’t have a career ending injury he’d be a first ballot hall of famer, no doubt. We can’t hit for snot, so why not bring in someone who was identified as the most feared hitter of the 90’s.
are you saying he’d be more Tommy Lasorda than Bobby Cox?
Put Albert Belle on the staff. Didn’t like how Manny Acta didn’t go out to argue calls? Well guess what Albert will gladly do. If he doesn’t demand respect from his players, I don’t know who would. At minimum, make him the hitting coach.
Any word on if Paul Sorento is also interested in coaching?
When I first read this I thought that it wouldn’t make any sense, but the more I think about it…why not?
First act as manager: A couple review and overhall of Progressive Field’s HVAC system to make it “bigger, more accessible.”
try chicago joey, theyll probably offer more money
Hire him as manager…if not then hire him to chase kids out of upper deck in right field during games.
is he hiring Grimsley as pitching coach?
That’s a given.
ok, so he goes Omar for bench coach (obviously a great wingman from his nightlife stories).
hitting coach…..hmmm…..
he never seemed to get along with Matt Williams, Thome or Manny. have to put an alltime great hitter in there whom he also respected.
I GOT IT!

I’m quite sure Jim Brown put him up to this.
